Band 5 Neonatal Staff Nurse

Job summary

We are looking for enthusiastic, hardworking and forward thinking band 5 qualified nurses to join our dynamic and friendly neonatal team on a permanent basis. We have an 18 bedded level 2 unit, looking after babies from 27 weeks gestation which includes 2 ITU cots, 4 HDU cots, 12 special care cots as well as a 9 bedded transitional care unit.

We provide stabilisation for babies below 27 weeks in emergency cases, and work alongside transport services and the West Midlands Operational Delivery Neonatal Network to transfer them to more suitable NICUs.

We have a seven day a week outreach service, caring for babies once they have been discharged from the Neonatal Unit.

We are passionate about, and promote baby friendly standards and family integrated care and have achieved our Silver BLISS accreditation, working towards gold and stage 2 of baby friendly accreditation in 2025. We have also been graded as outstanding from the Care Excellence accreditation in May 2025.

Main duties of the job

Using your clinical experience and skills you will maintain accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care within the framework of team nursing.Acting with compassion you will put babies and their families at the centre of all you do.

You will work within the multidisciplinary team to ensure high quality patient care.

You will show commitment to sustaining and developing your clinical competence and professional awareness.

You will provide supervision, support and education to unqualified staff and students.

You will show courage by embracing new ways of working and doing the right thing by the people you care for, including speaking up when you have concerns

You will show an awareness of budgeting, exercising care and economy in the ordering and use of equipment.
