Radiography Assistant Breast Imaging

Job summary

Due to the increase in the number of clinics we provide, we are seeking an enthusiastic and well-motivated person to join our friendly patient centred breast imaging team.

The Breast Screening base and assessment centre is located in a new, purpose built breast imaging unit at Worcester Acute Hospital.

This post will be 3 days per week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:15am -16:30pm.

Main duties of the job

You will provide a variety of patient related clerical and assistant duties in the Breast Screening Unit ensuring the efficient running of breast screening, symptomatic and assessment clinics. There is also a requirement for ad hoc driving duties to our remote sites across Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Job responsibilities

To perform a variety of client related clerical and assistant duties in the Breast Imaging Department and to support the Breast Imaging Team during screening/symptomatic and assessment clinics.

This post involves working with display screen equipment

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

To assist in ultrasound clinics, supporting patients and radiologists during interventional procedures.

To prepare sterile trolleys for procedures undertaken in Clinics

To provide Admin, Clerical, Radiographic support

To answer telephone calls politely and efficiently and to refer enquiries on to more senior staff when appropriate

To participate in Reception duties when required

To complete accurately all records

To input and retrieve data on the NBSS and CRIS computer systems

To prepare paperwork for screening clinics

To operate a variety of office equipment including computers, printers, scanners and photocopiers

To assist in image checking and sorting procedures with images and paperwork in correct order for film reporting

To assist in the general preparation and cleaning of work areas, maintaining stock levels etc.

To communicate to patients any delays likely to affect them.

To assist with patient care as and when required.

To ensure a high standard of practice with her own area of work.

To work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

If required to ensure that, the patient/client is informed how they will get their results and that they may leave and arrangements are made for transport if necessary.

To be reliable and have a flexible attitude towards the hours of work and participate in work and duties as required within the directorate.

Driving duties to static and mobile sites across Herefordshire and Worcestershire

To maintain his/her own area of work in a clean and tidy condition and to take appropriate action to ensure the safety of patients, self and others. To report any accidents/incidents to a senior member of staff.

To participate in the Quality Assurance Programme within the department.

To ensure the effective use of resources.

To liaise with other radiology assistants and radiographers regarding stock levels.

To participate in appraisal and work to achieve agreed set objectives.

To participate in departmental meetings.

To attend training and development courses as appropriate and take every reasonable opportunity to maintain and improve knowledge and competence.

To participate in the training of other staff with regard to induction and orientation.

To behave in a professional manner, upholding the reputation of the Directorate and Trust.

  • A good basic education. Educated to GCSE/ O Level
  • Good level of spoken and written English.
  • Good standard of numeracy

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Health and Social Care or Business Administration.

Experience

  • Experience of working with confidential and sensitive information.
