This vacancy is for a specialist dietitian, 32 hours per week, flexible working considered, band 6 fixed term for 12 months to cover maternity leave.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a specialist dietitian to join our team based at the Alexandra Hospital, providing cover at Worcestershire Royal Hospital when required. The post will be covering surgical patients and other patients with complex nutritional needs. You will also have the opportunity to provide a service to ICU at the Alexandra Hospital.

We are a forward thinking and proactive Dietetic department of 22 dietitians working within specialty teams.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is a key member of the surgical MDT, working closely alongside other dietitians, pharmacists, nursing staff and surgeons.

Experience working in surgical dietetics and with parenteral nutrition is desirable. Enthusiasm and commitment are essential.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  1. To manage a caseload of patients using specialist evidence-based and/or patient centred principles with a variety range of medical and surgical conditions.
  2. To provide specialist dietetic expertise for inpatients who require parenteral nutrition (PN). Providing advice on appropriate indication and safe initiation, access route and a patient centred plan to best meet patients macro and micronutrient requirements, working alongside the MDT. Monitoring protocol, efficacy and complications.
  3. To act as a specialist dietitian for patients on ICU/ critical care, working in-line with national guidelines to provide an evidence based service at the Alexandra Hospital alongside the critical care lead dietitian. Working in conjunction with the doctors and health care professionals to support service development.
  4. To provide specialist dietetic expertise to staff and nutritional advice to a range of patients on acute inpatient wards.
  5. To provide day to day support and supervision to Band 5 colleagues at the Alexandra Hospital working in conjunction with the team lead Dietitian.
  6. To provide support and supervision to students on practice placements.
  7. To maintain the service and prioritise the clinical caseload at the Alexandra hospital when the team lead is off site.

To work across site at Worcestershire Royal Hospital when demand requires.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Nutrition & Dietetics or equivalent qualifications in Dietetics.
  • Registered Dietitian recognised by the HCPC.
  • Evidence of CPD

Desirable

  • Member of the British Dietetic Association.
  • Attendance on clinical educators programme.
  • Attendance on relevant accredited courses.
  • Member of a specialist interest group

Experience
