Job summary
To support professionally qualified
staff in providing quality care for patients in roles, which are mainly related
to direct patient care this is a generic job description, which covers the
range of duties that a healthcare assistant may be required to undertake.
Main duties of the job
To accompany patients where clinical
support is indicated
To chaperone patients as required
To undertake basic observations,
eg TPR height and weight, BMI and reporting and recording results to qualified
staff.
To ensure that patients receive care
appropriate to their needs.
To assist in the setting up and
cleaning of clinic trolleys and disposal of clinical waste.
To respond appropriately to clinical
emergencies.
To answer telephone calls and take
messages informing appropriate persons of the call.
To assist in the transferring of
patients using correct manual handling techniques and equipment as appropriate.
To report immediately to the nurse
in charge any observed change in a patients condition or any concern expressed
by a patient about nursing care or medical treatment.
Demonstrate knowledge of Health and
Safety at work in order to maintain a safe environment.
To maintain professional and personal
development.
Undertake mandatory and local
training appropriate to the role.
To act always in a manner which
promotes positive working relationships and maintains the professional image of
the trust.

appropriate.
