Job summary
Maternity Services are seeking an experienced enthusiastic person to work and be part of the senior Midwifery team within the Women and Children's Division. The role presents an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified, dynamic and motivated individual to lead and develop the teams and services across sites and to improve the care pathways for our service users and their families. The successful applicant will work closely with the Deputy Director of Midwifery, Directorate and Divisional teams, and our other Maternity matrons.
This is an opportunity to work collaboratively with the established multi-disciplinary team to provide efficient and excellent care. You will also work alongside the wider Divisional Management team and be involved in decision making and promoting Midwifery in our Division. You will have excellent leadership skills and the knowledge required to help the Division deliver its Quality Improvement agenda. You will represent the Division at meetings, working closely with numerous stakeholders and external organisations.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will consistently demonstrate good management, diplomacy, sensitivity, organisational skills, excellent communication skills and promote collaborative team working. You will need to have a flexible approach to facilitate new ways of working whilst maintaining and continuing to develop of a high quality service. You must be able to work well under pressure and have a desire to learn and nurture an expanding Midwifery team.

Lead work teams in the development of knowledge, ideas and work practice. Provide a role model for others to emulate, working alongside colleagues and exhibiting high standards of professional behaviour and dress including the wearing of uniform. Advising the Deputy Director of Midwifery and Clinical Leads on professional matters and specific speciality midwifery issues. Will be expected to take the lead role on one or more corporate initiatives and/or key deliverables and co-ordinate the development, management and implementation across the maternity service. Identify opportunities to develop innovative roles for all midwifery staff in order to meet the evolving needs of women and families and new models of care within the Trust. To contribute to the long-term strategies of the Directorate, including major operational changes, service reviews and developments.To have personal responsibility and accountability for Infection Prevention and Control practice within their sphere of responsibility, providing leadership to the infection prevention and control programme, monitoring infection control rates and taking forward those actions and changes necessary to reduce the incidence. To be responsible for standards of environmental cleanliness thereby influencing the reduction of hospital acquired infections. S/he will report up to the Directorate Management Team and the Board on standards of cleanliness and lead actions to improve standards of cleanliness within areas of responsibility.To be responsible for the implementation of strategies and actions which reduce the risk of hospital acquired infections.
