Job summary

Worcestershire Oncology Centre is located in a dedicated purpose built unit on the Worcestershire Royal Hospital site. Housing 3 Elekta Versa HD linear Accelerators, a Cannon wide bore CT scanner and a Xstrahl superficial unit. We have been operational for 11 years and are starting a machine replacement program. We are looking to replace the CT scanner and treatment machines over the next few years, with the first replacement Linac due to be completed by March 2026 and the next two in the subsequent years.

The Technical Services section provides comprehensive engineering functions to fully support the departments treatment machines. This includes 1st, 2nd and 3rd line in house support. Planned Preventative Maintenance is in accordance with the manufacturers instructions. A strong working relationship has been developed with the manufacturers.

This combination makes for a very satisfying working day, coupled with an excellent working environment. We are a dedicated team of four engineers that provide a wrap around service supporting the clinical day.

The service is currently operating from 07:15 to 18:30 five days a week, patient numbers have been increasing over the years. You will be expected to work flexibly between 07:00 and 20:00 Monday - Friday with an on-call provision at weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

The Technical Services team supports the efficient running of the Radiotherapy service at Worcestershire Oncology Centre.

Providing a full range of Planned Preventative Maintenance activities in line with the manufacturers instructions.

You will be expected to effectively return the treatment machine back into clinical use following any unplanned events. Utilising your extensive knowledge of Linear Accelerators, electronics knowledge and best engineering practice. This coupled with highly advanced fault finding techniques to provide the best possible resolution to equipment faults.

You need to be an expert in your field and have been working with Linear Accelerators for at least 5 years.

Provide support to less experienced colleagues through mentoring and training sessions.

Calling on your manufacturers training and practical experience working on Linear Accelerators. Independently perform the full range of Planned Preventative Maintenance tasks.

Complete FCO's issued by the Manufacturers in a timely manner ensuring all documentation is complete and registered.

Perform staff appraisals, sickness management and lead team meetings.

Deputise as and when required for the Technical manager.

Maintain Technical Services records ensuring both a high degree of accuracy and technical detail is recorded.

Evidence through CPD records; keep on top of current best practice and up-and-coming treatment machine developments.
