Job summary
The successful post holder will participate in a dual role cleaning, decontaminate and maintain a variety of endoscopes following departmental protocols to agreed standards and be aware of COSHH regulations and the importance of wearing PPE.
Prepare environments for use during endoscopy lists.
Work and assist as a Band 3 in all diagnostic and endoscopic procedures with guidance from a Registered Nurse, working within a competency framework, with support from the Directorate Professional Development Team and the County wide Decontamination Lead.
In conjunction with Unit Manager / Registered Nurses, support, teach and guide other Health Care Assistants to achieve a suitable competency level.
Assist Registered Nurse to provide a high standard of care to patients in the clinical areas. For example, monitoring patients in the recovery area and maintaining a patient's airway during a diagnostic gastroscopy.
Carry out a range of patient care tasks as directed, supported and supervised by a Registered Nurse.
To work County wide as and when needed to meet demands of the service.
To participate in the out of hours on call rota duties will be getting scope out, set up treatment room, maintain airway on patient, portering patient to and from ward, decontaminating the scope. all under guidance of RGN.
The Endoscopy Unit is currently open Monday to Friday 08:00 to 18:00.
Main duties of the job
Demonstrate competence in handling, cleaning, decontaminating, tracking and maintaining specialist endoscopy equipment min accordance with local, National and Trust decontamination guidelines and policies.
Demonstrate awareness of COSHH regulations and the importance of wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) when dealing with contaminated equipment or chemicals.
Guide and support junior members of staff in their development and assist the Unit Manager in the training of all staff in the cleaning and reprocessing of endoscopes.
Assist with procedures and admission and recovery areas under supervision of RGNs.
Maintain patient dignity and privacy and maintain confidentiality at all times.
Maintain accurate and legible records.
