Job summary
An
exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated senior therapeutic
radiographer to join our friendly on treatment review team as a band 7
Macmillan Radiotherapy Specialist Review Radiographer (0.6WTE) (3 days per
week) for 18 months to cover for maternity leave.
You
will be an integral member of a small team of 2 review radiographers that provide
specialist care for all patients undergoing radiotherapy treatment here at
Worcestershire Oncology Centre alongside site specialist radiographers. You
will be reviewing patients undergoing radiotherapy, delivering information and support
to our patients.
You
will play a key role in coordinating care pathways, liaising with other
departments within and outside the Trust to ensure seamless care for our
patients.
Further
training for this role will be supported by the Trust. You will be expected to
actively engage with Macmillan to maximize learning and development
opportunities.
The
radiotherapy department at Worcester is patient focused and strives to ensure
that all patients are treated in a supportive and calming environment, offering excellent facilities for patients.
We have 3 matched Elekta
Linacs undertaking a wide range of techniques including SABR and DIBH.
Localization is carried out on a Toshiba wide bore scanner, Raystation is used
for all treatment planning. Mosaiq is our oncology management system.
Main duties of the job
The
post holder will be an integral member of the multidisciplinary cancer care
team providing specific expertise in the physical, emotional and educational
needs of patients undergoing radiotherapy.
They will undertake on-treatment
review clinics being responsible for the development of evidence based
protocols and Patient Group Directives to support both this role as well as the
radiographers in managing radiotherapy related side effects.
The post holder will
play a key role in coordinating care pathways for patients requiring
radiotherapy and will liaise with other departments, within and outside the
Trust and with the community to ensure seamless care. They will provide specialist
advice and education to other health care professionals on all aspects of
radiotherapy and associated toxicities.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Clinical
- Provide information and advice to patient, carers and staff on all aspects of cancer, its treatment and the support services available. To offer particular expertise in the field of radiotherapy treatment and the management of treatment related toxicities in line with department and Trust protocols and National Guidance.
- Deliver a multi-disciplinary approach to patient-centred care by appropriate sign-posting to relevant staff, services or agencies.
- Promote patient/carer independence through the provision of relevant education and support.
- Provide confidential support to patients utilising a range of recognised counselling skills.
- Act as a patient advocate through the application of ethical, legal and professional knowledge and skills.
- Undertake radiotherapy on-treatment review clinics providing expertise in the assessment and management of treatment related toxicities and initiating treatment in line with evidence based protocols and in liaison with the patients Clinical Oncologist.
- Implement and disseminate change in practice through policy and guideline development.
- Coordinate the radiotherapy treatment pathway for specified patients groups particularly those undergoing multi-modality treatment.
- Act as a role model demonstrating high standards of care and providing clinical leadership to others.
- Provide specialist education and training to other professionals involved in patient care.
2. Managerial / leadership
- Participate in Macmillan Service Reviews in order to drive service improvement.
- Lead on the implementation and monitoring of adherence to relevant clinical guidelines.
- Lead the development, management and promotion of the service ensuring the delivery of high quality, cost-effective care.
- Line manage the HCAs associated with the clinic area
3. Research and education
- Take a lead role in formal and informal education of all Health Care Professionals as appropriate, in relation to cancer treatments, particularly radiotherapy and treatment related side effects.
- Work with other disciplines and support agencies to promote the service in the hospital and community.
- Actively promote research-based practice in the area of Clinical Oncology and collaborate with radiographers and nursing and medical staff as appropriate.
- Participate in the Induction of new staff.
- Ensure that people affected by cancer are aware that they are interacting with a Macmillan Professional and know about the full range of resources and services available through Macmillan.
- Collate and record quantitative and qualitative data to provide evidence of productivity, outcomes and quality, through audit and research and provides Macmillan with an Annual Report demonstrating the evidence.

- Take personal responsibility for life-long learning and personal development through clinical supervision, appraisal and actively engage with learning and development opportunities offered by Macmillan.

- Ensure that Trust wide standards are maintained and monitored to improve the quality of total care to all who come into contact with the services provided by Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust.
