Job summary
WAHT is seeking to recruit a Speciality Doctor in
Rheumatology. The post is designed for doctors applying for entry onto the
Specialist Register in Rheumatology with General Internal Medicine (GIM) via
the Portfolio pathway. We would expect this to require 3-4 years for
completion. Training will aim to mirror that delivered by a higher specialty
training programme and will utilise portfolio evidence. You will be allocated a
consultant supervisor to guide you through the process and assist with your
portfolio. The expectation is that the candidate would be appointed to a
substantive rheumatology consultant post within the Trust following successful
entry onto the specialist register.
This post is to commence as soon as possible on a fixed term
basis - length of contract to be discussed and confirmed at interview depending
on the requirements of the individual appointed.

Main duties of the job
We are
looking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated individual keen to progress
their Rheumatology career.
The
clinical duties of the post include the following:
- Outpatient
clinics with supervising consultant
- Joint
injection clinic
- Synovitis
ultrasound scanning
- Reviewing
in-patient referrals with supervision of on-call consultant
- Supervision
of patients receiving day case infusions
- Clinical
admin including checking and signing clinic letters, reviewing patient results,
responding to patient and GP advice queries, signing high-cost drug
prescriptions, etc.
- Weekly
departmental MDT
- Monthly departmental
clinical governance, business and educational meetings
- Taking
an active part in audit and clinical governance
- Involvement
of teaching of undergraduate medical students and other health professionals

Job responsibilities
A suitably
experienced post-holder will be expected to provide an appropriate clinical
service in the relevant specialty to patients of the Worcestershire Acute
Hospitals NHS Trust and to General
Practitioners.
The post-holder
will be expected to provide a service to patients of the Worcestershire Acute
Hospitals NHS Trust, General Practitioners and to attend multi-disciplinary
meetings. The successful candidate will be expected to work within
multi-disciplinary teams in providing high quality clinical care. It is
anticipated work will be undertaken on three sites and closer to the patients home. The Trust is seeking to
extend services to GP surgeries/health centres etc and job plans may be revised
in due course.
The post-holder
will provide support to the A&E department and acute medicine to ensure timely appropriate care
and patient flow through the hospital.
The post-holder will provide
consultation and advisory service to clinical colleagues in the Trust and
Primary Care. The post-holder will attend cross county and cross site meetings.
To collaborate with colleagues
to deliver a high quality, timely
service and to work towards meeting the
Trusts and departmental objectives.
The post-holder will
participate in the middle grade on call rota to ensure that both emergency and urgent services are provided out of normal hours,
to be shared equally with colleagues in post.
The Trust would expect a Specialty
Doctor whilst undertaking non-resident on-call duties to attend the hospital
site to review patients when
clinically necessary. The Specialty Doctor on call must be prepared to attend
willingly whenever requested to do so by a member of their medical and nursing
team.
