An opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Ward Manager for the Medical Day Case Unit. We are looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking individual to join the team.

Medical day case is a fast-paced unit delivering a range of specialist drugs and treatments to their patients.

You will be a highly motivated forward-thinking professional who can demonstrate the ability to lead and support staff in a proactive and effective way. You will be expected to lead, by example, providing evidence-based care to the patients within the unit.

Infection prevention and control must be high on your agenda. You will need to have worked in an acute medical area within the medical day case unit and gained relevant experience at a band 6/7 level

The opportunities to learn new skills in medication administration spanning several different directorates are endless.

The unit is currently open 7 days per week.

Main duties of the job

A high level of clinical skills in venepuncture and cannulation is desirable or willing to undertake.

A valid blood licence due to the volume of blood products delivered on the unit, is desirable or willing to undertake.

To ensure a high standard of nursing care at all times through the effective management of staff and resources on his / her allocated department.

To demonstrate strong clinical leadership in stressful and challenging situations.

To promote a positive approach to new challenges and creative ways of working.

To act as advocate for their designated area and liaise with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to co-ordinate all aspects of patient care in the best interests of the patient and family.

To ensure effective training and educational programmes are available by liaising with appropriate personnel to meet the training and educational needs of nurses in the clinical area. This post carries continuing responsibility for the management of the Ward, including the deployment and supervision of staff.

Achieve and maintain competence in identified mandatory and statutory training; develop and maintain clinical competencies, skills and knowledge which relate to the area of clinical practice (i.e. Venepuncture, Cannulation).

Maintain a valid blood licence to deliver/collect/test blood for transfusion.

Accept personal responsibility and accountability for your infection prevention and control practice.

Ensure that you are familiar with, and comply with, all relevant policies. Ensure that you receive mandatory updates in infection control.
