Job summary

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking to recruit a Consultant in Medical Oncology. The post will have a special interest in Gynaecology and Breast. The Directorate provides services across 3 hospital sites within the county of Worcestershire. The candidate will benefit from working within a friendly and experienced team of Oncologists.

We look forward to establishing links with the new Medical School in addition to well-established relationships with the University of Birmingham and the University of Warwick.

As part of the Consultant Advisory Appointment Committee, shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide a 5 minute presentation on the topic: What are the challenges setting up an oncology service in a DGH (state specialty before interview)

Main duties of the job

Direct Clinical Care (DCC):

8.0 PAs on average per week (includes clinical activity, clinically related activity, predictable & unpredictable emergency work)

Cross-site travel and clinical administration time is included in each session of DCC.

Supporting Professional Activities (SPA):

2 SPAs per week to support your personal CPD and revalidation related activities.

On call:

Rota frequency is anticipated to be 1 in 11 weeks. The on-call consultant will, under usual circumstances, be available for telephone advice out of hours and conduct a ward round review of oncology patients on Saturday and Sunday. There may be an occasional requirement to assess a patient out of hours at other times.

the Chief Medical Officer, to ensure that it continually reflects the areas of work, clinical responsibility of the post and purchaser requirements.

  • A suitably experienced post-holder will be expected to provide a clinical service in the relevant specialty to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and to General Practitioners.
  • The post-holder will be expected to provide a service to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, General Practitioners and to attend multi-disciplinary meetings. The successful candidate will be expected to work within multi-disciplinary teams in providing high quality clinical care.
