Tobacco Dependancy Advisor

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust

The closing date is 01 October 2024

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a motivated Band 4 Maternity Tobacco Dependency Advisor, working within the Worcestershire Maternity team.

The successful post holders will join our existing team of advisors and will be integral to the Maternity Tobacco Dependency Service.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about health promotion and health behaviour change to work with our patients and their families to help treat their tobacco dependency throughout pregnancy. The service is a key part of achieving the Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle Version 3 and the NHS Long Term Plan.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide behavioural change support, nicotine replacement therapy, and develop bespoke tobacco dependency and quit smoking treatment care plans. You will work with patients on a 1:1 basis, follow systems and processes, and keep accurate records.

Previous experience in smoking cessation/behavioural change support or health care experience would be beneficial but is not essential as training will be provided.

The Maternity Tobacco Dependency Advisor will play a key role within the wider multidisciplinary team, to raise awareness of the harm caused by tobacco usage, and where applicable will refer on to the Smoke Free Homes Service for support postnatally.

As a member of the Maternity Tobacco Dependency Team, the post holder will provide individualised stop smoking support to pregnant patients in a flexible and innovative way, within the Trust, across all three sites, and in patient homes where applicable. The post holder will also work closely with Public Health, the Public Health Midwife, the Saving Babies Lives lead Midwife and other members of the maternity team.
