Job summary
Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is currently seeking a Physiotherapy Support Worker to assist qualified Physiotherapists in delivering the highest standard of care to our patients.
This permanent, part-time role is based at Worcestershire Royal Hospital within the Hydrotherapy Department, with a working week of 37.25 hours to be worked Monday to Friday.
Under the supervision of a qualified physiotherapist and following appropriate training, the successful candidate will support the rehabilitation of patients with a range of medical, surgical, and orthopaedic conditions, helping to restore their mobility and function.
Given the nature of the Hydrotherapy Department, the role will require regular assistance with water-based treatment sessions in the hydrotherapy pool, working alongside a qualified physiotherapist.
The successful candidate will also contribute to the smooth day-to-day operation of the busy Hydrotherapy Department.

Main duties of the job
Working as part of the
physiotherapy team, to provide quality therapeutic care through the delivery of specified assessment and
treatment programmes to a limited patient group, as directed by the senior
therapist. This will involve working
unsupervised with patients who are familiar to them and at times will involve
working with both qualified and unqualified staff including Physiotherapy
assistants.
To provide
clerical and administrative support to qualified staff and students and
to undertake delegated housekeeping and stock control tasks.
To participate
in the weekend service. The speciality
dependant on experience. This service
may include the treatment of children.Working hours will be dependent upon the
service provided within each speciality, this may include 7 day working or
participation in a relevant weekend/bank holiday rota.

of the MDT, support staff, community care co-ordinators, discharge
co-ordinators, patients, carers, relatives, students, palliative care team.
Risk assessment :
This post involves frequent
manual handling activities e.g. hoisting, positioning, assisting
sitting/standing, transferring, giving physical support during walking
practice/exercise and occasional pushing of large items of equipment. There is a frequent requirement for moderate physical effort, including
repetitive techniques e.g. passive exercises, bed exercises and an occasional
requirement for intensive physical effort for several short periods throughout
the day. Close contact with patients frequently exposes the post holder to
bodily fluids e.g. sputum, urine, blood, vomit and faeces.
There is a need for concentration when working with
patients and occasional involvement in emotionally distressing situations, such
as dealing with bad news, terminal illness, death and bereavement, where empathy and
support for patients, carers and other
team members will be needed.

and standing balance and transfer abilities.
To
assess and progress patients mobility which may include issuing, training and
the progression in using walking aids, under supervision of a qualified
physiotherapist.
To
monitor patients during treatment and progress the treatment plan following
consultation with a physiotherapist or senior assistant.
To
deliver specified treatments with empathy under the management of a
physiotherapist.
To prepare patients for treatment including undressing, removal of
splints and toileting.
To
maintain using accepted protocols accurate and contemporaneous treatment
records including valid consent appropriate to the intervention.
To
ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
To
be aware of own limitation of knowledge in relationship to physiotherapy and to
refer back to the supervising physiotherapist when appropriate.
To
work contracted hours over 7 days within specific specialities.
To
participate in the weekend service. The

To maintain accurate and
contemporaneous treatment records including valid consent to interventions.
