The Breast Imaging department based in the Worcestershire Breast Unit is comprised of the Hereford and Worcester Breast Screening Service and the Worcester symptomatic breast imaging service. The combined services provide specialised breast imaging services, dedicated to the early detection, surveillance, and treatment of breast conditions.

PACS and Technical Support Coordinator is a new role in the Breast Imaging department, we are seeking to recruit an individual with a strong background in both maintenance of confidential digital records and technical support to join our team. This new role will be crucial to managing digital imaging archives, coordinating the transfer of images (inbound and outbound) and providing practical technical assistance and support to staff working at all levels in the department.

Main duties of the job

To be the primary contact for PACS in the Breast Imaging department, the Breast Directorate and the broader divisional teams in Women and Childrens division.

Establishing strong team working relationships with other disciplines within Worcester Acute Hospitals NHS Trust (WAHT); Worcestershire Health and Care Trust and Wye Valley Trust (WVT).

Work closely with Radiology PACS team, IT, Siemens, Technical Services, Visbion, Estates and Facilities, acting as the primary technical support contact for Breast Imaging, facilitating efficient use of IT equipment and the PACS and IEP systems.

As the primary contact in the Breast Imaging department, take responsibility for the logging and monitoring of technical support calls, escalating appropriately

Administration and coordination of the transfer of imaging studies between Worcester Acute Hospitals NHS Trust (WAHT) and external institutions via the Image Exchange Portal (IEP).

Assist in setting up user access and providing training where appropriate for clinical systems to locum and new staff.

Provide technical support within the department, troubleshooting hardware and software issues within scope of competency, taking action to raise and escalate support calls where necessary.

Undertake timely and accurate processing of screening clinic batches, maintain discrepancy log and taking appropriate action where discrepancies are identified.

Ensure timely transfer of imaging into PACS (including upload imaging from portable storage media) in preparation for film reading.

Monitor and ensure prompt reconciliation of quarantined images

Participate in the departmental preceptorship programme, training new users and provide re-training to clinical and non-clinical staff and managers as necessary to enable effective use of PACS and IEP systems.

Assist in setting up user access and providing training where appropriate for clinical systems to locum and new staff.

Provide technical support within the department, troubleshooting hardware and software issues within scope of competency, taking action to raise and escalate support calls where necessary.

Coordinate preventative maintenance and supply of consumables for printers and scanners.

Take responsibility for completion and documentation of reporting monitor quality assurance tests, escalating issues immediately.

Uphold strict compliance with data protection regulations ensuring patient confidentiality.

Engage in continuous improvement of the breast imaging service, suggesting enhancements to imaging processes and technology use.

Participate in the production and review of departmental protocols and work instructions.

Participate audit activities, including preparation of images for quality assurance and interval cancer reviews and for annual radiation dose audits.

Maintain databases and produce high-quality reports for presentation at meetings.

Contribute to safe working practices, recognising technical issues, and escalating appropriately, reporting clinical and non-clinical incidents, defects in equipment, near misses and serious untoward incidents, following Trust procedures.
