Job summary

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking to recruit a Consultant in Anaesthetics. The post will have a special interest in Pain Management. The Directorate provides services across 3 hospital sites within the county of Worcestershire.

As a Trust we are actively involved in developing the training program for students from the Three Counties Medical School based in Worcester which opens in September 2023. We look forward to establishing links with the new Medical School in addition to well-established relationships with the University of Birmingham and the University of Warwick.

Interested candidates are invited to contact the department via wah-tr.gasrota@nhs.net.

Planned AAC date: Monday 9th September 2024.

Main duties of the job

The Anaesthetic department provides services to three sites - Worcestershire Royal Hospital (WRH), Alexandra Hospital, and Kidderminster Treatment Centre (KTC), encompassing all major specialities with a strong countywide working ethos. Recent surgical reconfiguration means most elective surgery will be delivered on the Alexandra Hospital site, while the majority of emergency, trauma and obstetric work will be on the WRH site. KTC functions as a day-case and short-stay surgical unit. Applicants will be required to contribute to the general and obstetric on call rota.

On call: 1.5 PA on call and category A 3% on call availability supplement. Rota frequency is anticipated to be 1:14, however may be subject to change.

The Anaesthetic department is renowned for providing a highly supportive working environment both for consultant colleagues and for trainees, for whom we endeavour to provide the highest quality training opportunities. The trust runs a cross specialty mentoring scheme for new consultants, provides monthly well-being webinars, and has open access to Occupational Health support. In addition, the successful applicant will be provided with a mentor from within the anaesthetic department.

Potential applicants are encouraged to visit and to seek further details on the operational aspects of the department.
