Job summary

A opportunity to be supported to train as a Nurse Hysteroscopist within a forward thinking supportive ambulatory team of Consultants and nurses. You will contribute to the diagnostic 2 week wait pathway for gynaecological cancers along with diagnosis and management of benign gynaecological conditions.

Whilst training as a nurse Hysteroscopist you will be supported to complete the recognised BSGE training program for nurse hysteroscopy under direct supervision and within clearly defined parameters.

We have a proven track record of developing and training our staff to work within robust and supportive multi professional teams, challenging our nursing staff to develop advanced practice skills to enhance and add to the quality of care we provide for women within Worcestershire.

This role will be part of the Gynaecology Specialist nursing service providing professional peer support for the successful candidate.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide competent and skilled hysteroscopy procedures under the direct supervision of the lead Hysteroscopist . Whilst training as a Nurse Hysteroscopist it is expected that you will complete hysteroscopy training under initially direct supervision and within clearly defined parameters.
  • To work as a trainee nurse Hysteroscopist and not simultaneously as a registered nurse member of the clinic staff.
  • The Trainee Nurse Hysteroscopist will sit within the Specialist Nurse rota and be available to attend hysteroscopy clinics across the county Monday to Friday to ensure training needs are met.
  • To assist with the further development of and provide day to day clinical care within the Gynaecology Hysteroscopy Service for Worcestershire.
  • To provide effective leadership to more junior staff and to act as a positive role model.
  • As a member of the gynaecology directorate multidisciplinary team to have responsibility for ensuring assessment of care needs, development and evaluation of programmes of care ensuring the delivery of high quality care to patients.
  • To liaise with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and co-ordinate all aspects of care in the best interests of the patient and family.
  • To contribute to the continuing development of practice to all members of the directorate. To supervise junior staff and to teach qualified and unqualified staff as appropriate.
  • To liaise closely with the Hysteroscopy lead trainer and any external mentors to ensure training needs are being met.

1. Clinical

With supervision to be responsible for a small caseload of clients for the assessment of care needs to include simple and complex clinical problems of the patient supported whilst training.

Responsible with supervision whilst training for the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for the patient whose needs may be predictable or unpredictable and / or unstable and changing to ensure delivery of high standards of care.

To develop the independent skill through supervised training, mentorship and attendance at BSGE accredited hysteroscopy course

To attend and complete the post graduate certificate in diagnostic hysteroscopy and therapeutic management course for nurses as identified by the BSGE

To identify the requirements of the patient needs in elective / emergency situations and have the knowledge and skills to act accordingly

To support and involve patients / clients / carers relatives and liaise with and coordinate other members of the multidisciplinary team in the planning and delivery of individualised care.

To contribute to the effective use of physical, financial and human resources

Lead, supervise and provide training to new registered and non registered staff i.e HCAs and student nurses. To provide advice and support ensuring safe and effective care and that educational needs are met.

Contribute to discussion, debate and influence change in practice underpinned by research that is evidence based. This will include assisting the lead nurse in development of guidelines and policy with specific reference to Hysteroscopy

Act as a team leader where appropriate ensuring effective teamwork and promote healthy working relations with support from mentor /trainer.

Monitor and maintain own and others health, safety and security

To work within an ethical framework utilising the NMC code of conduct, defined policies, procedures, standards and protocols of the department, organisation to promote safe and effective evidence based practice and contribute to quality improvement.

To understand and take ownership of own training pathway with due consideration of the requirements of the BSGE for qualification.

In the absence of the Lead specialist nurse when deligated to take charge of an identified area of work and manage the standards of care and daily responsibilities, including work allocation, deployment and supervision of staff to ensure smooth running of the area.
