Job summary

Due to the expansion of our existing urology diagnostic unit and the development and opening of a urology same day emergency care unit we have exciting opportunities for the right people to join us.

our unit is open Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm with the possibility of shorter shifts being available occasionally. The appointed candidates will have the chance to learn how to care for Urology patients undergoing important diagnostic procedures under the supervision and guidance of our experienced registered nurses and Urology Specialist Nurses.

Main duties of the job

  • Assist in the preparation of environments ready for clinical procedures

    Contributing to the safe efficient and smooth running of unit lists

    Act as chaperone to patients ensuring that their privacy and dignity is maintained at all times

    Communicate information effectively to co-workers, patients and relatives/carers and members of the multidisciplinary team using sensitivity and empathy under the guidance of senior team members

    In conjunction with the unit manager/registered nurses, support and guide other health care assistants where appropriate

    Demonstrate competence in performing and recording clinical observations of patients, and an awareness of their relevance

    Demonstrate awareness of the barriers to communication and understanding

    Monitor patients recovering from a variety of diagnostic procedures carried out on the unit

    Adhere to moving and handling policies and guidance related to patients and equipment

    Demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedures

    Maintain and develop clinical competence through and take part in regular Professional development reviews, mandatory training, peer supervision, reflective practice and clinical supervision

  • Assist in diagnostic activities on the unit where appropriate and following all necessary training.
  • Communicate effectively to the whole MDT, patient and carers.

The post holder is responsible for limiting his / her actions to those which s/he feels competent to undertake. If the post holder has any doubt as to his or her competence during the course of his/ her duties then s/he should immediately speak to their manger / supervisor.
