Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Surgical division for a Senior Medical Secretary to work as part of the Ear, Nose and Throat team. We are a strong, proactive team who welcome innovation and adaptability within the service.
The position is part time, and the candidate will be expected to work 30hours a week. The post is based at Worcester Hospital; however, applicants may be required to provide cross site cover. We also offer some flexibility with home working for a limited number of days per week.
As well as being part of the busy department, you'll be required to prioritise your own workload on a day-to-day basis. Excellent IT and communication skills are essential for this role.
You will demonstrate excellent organisational skills, must be flexible in approach, able to exercise initiative and demonstrate a consistently high standard of professionalism, being aware of the need for confidentiality and integrity. We would require a strong communicator and dedicated team player.

Main duties of the job
Type the necessary correspondence and/or documentation generated by a patients passage through the hospital service, and maintain patient notes pertinent to these events.
Act as a liaison between Consultant Teams and speciality based groups of Consultant Teams and the GP, the patient and other agencies involved to expedite the care and treatment of patients as effectively as possible.
Undertake office administration functions in relation to the clinical and management work of Consultant.

provide a personal assistant and medical secretarial service to a Consultant
and other medical staff in relation to their clinical duties.
To
manage the Consultants waiting list and the booking of theatre lists in line
with Trust policy and national 18 week RTT guidelines.
To
undertake medical audio/copy typing duties including outpatient letters to
General Practitioners operation notes and letters, discharge summaries and
other official correspondence if required.
To
undertake responsibility to ensure any outsourced work for the Acute Clinics is
correctly checked and uploaded to the Trust records and applications.
To
respond to enquiries from GPs, other Health Service personnel, patients and
relatives
To
participate in the collection and transmission of information to enable the
Directorate to meet its objectives.
To
assist with sorting day to day post.
To
participate in the introduction and use of IT and to provide IT support to
colleagues.
To
cover, as is practical, Medical Secretary colleagues
To participate in the use of PAS systems to
establish patient information is kept as accurate as possible and produce
patient documentation as required.
To
undertake any other duties as may be required as appropriate by the Consultant
