Senior Healthcare Assistant Urogynaecology Specialist Nursing
An new opportunity has arisen within the Gynaecology nursing team at
Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust for an enthusiastic HCA to join the
Specialist team. The speciality cares for women with bladder and bowel problems
and also pelvic organ prolapse.
This is an exciting post for a person that is passionate about helping
to deliver good quality patient care, developing their knowledge in field of
Urogynaecology. We are looking for an individual who is forward thinking,
looking for a new challenge and who provides high standards of care
You must have excellent communication skills to engage with patients and
colleagues at all levels. You will have the opportunity to further develop your
skills and clinical knowledge. You will be joining a team who are committed to
high quality and compassionate patient care along with encouraging personal and
professional development.
This role is Countywide with the urogynaecology service which is offered
across three sites; Alexandra Hospital, Kidderminster Treatment Centre and
Worcestershire Royal Hospital. You will be required to attend any of the sites to
meet service need demands.

Main duties of the job
- To support the professionally qualified staff and work under their direction to provide quality nursing care, therapy activity, treatments and procedures directly to patients.
- Care for a group of patients within Outpatient clinics, under supervision of the Registered Nurse.
- To mentor, supervise and teach Health Care Assistants.
- To Lead and co-ordinate a range of clinical and non-clinical tasks and responsibilities undertaken by Health Care Assistants.
- To support the department staff to provide a high quality service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES.
1.
Clinical/ Leadership- Ensure
own actions help to maintain quality.
- To support the work of the
professional members of the team to prepare patients for and assist with
clinical/therapeutic activities or treatments, investigations and
procedures.
- To undertake clinical
activities/procedures and therapeutic activities/ treatments which are
delegated by the professional and under their direction.
- To report back to and share
information with the nurses and Clinical Nurse Specialists regarding the
condition, behaviour, activity and responses of the patient attending
clinics, and to contribute to the nursing record as necessary.
- Assist in assessing peoples health
and wellbeing and related needs.
- To facilitate effective
communication with patients, relatives and carers, colleagues and other
visitors to the department.
- To support patients/relatives in
times of distress referring to the appropriate professional and making the
best use of available services and facilities eg support groups.
- Following appropriate training
assist with setting up for specialist procedures, minor operations and
care of patients pre and post procedure.
- Assist in planning, delivering and
evaluating programmes to meet peoples health and wellbeing needs.
- Following appropriate training
carry out, ECG, venepuncture, female catheterisation, bladder scanning,
flow rates, tibial nerve stimulation and other clinical duties appropriate
to the area.
- Prepare clinical area and equipment
as required for specific clinics.
- Assist in retrieving patient
investigation results, scans and x-rays.
- Following appropriate training, be
responsible for assessing a patients care needs and nutritional needs if
required.
- To contribute to health promotion
within Clinical area.
- To support the nursing team to
monitor standards and achieve high quality performance.
- To carry out all duties in
accordance with Trust polices and procedures.
- To be responsible for the care of a
group of patients within the outpatient clinics supervised by a qualified
nurse.

communication with people on a routine and operational matters.
2. Staff Development
- To
act as a mentor, role model and support for the development of Health Care
Assistants, assisting with the induction of new HCAs and referring any problem
to the Lead Urogynaecology Specialist Nurse.
- To
maintain high standards of nursing care, by continually updating own knowledge
and skills using both formal and informal learning opportunities.
- To act as Link Nurse along side a registered nurse for areas such as Manual
Handling, Tissue Viability, Infection Control and Nutrition.
- Development
of own knowledge and skills provide information to others to help
development. Expected to undertake and
complete mandatory and role specific training
4.Clinical Governance
- Ensure
own actions support equality, diversity and rights.
- To
contribute to the control of infection by monitoring and reporting any
housekeeping issues and maintaining rotas for the regular cleaning of
nursing/patient equipment.

maintain high standards of care by continual updating of own knowledge and
skills, both formally and informally.
