Job summary
We have a new, senior opportunity to join the Gynaecology team as Ward Manager for the Emergency Gynaecology & Early Pregnancy Assessment Units and Gynaecology Inpatient Unit.
You will lead and co-ordinate a dedicated team of registered and non-registered nursing staff in the delivery of patient-centred, high quality gynaecological care, providing clinical and professional leadership.
You will need the ability to problem-solve, prioritise and work to deadlines. You must have a proven record in improving patient experience and leading/developing teams. You will assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of Governance systems relating to risk management, health and safety and key performance indicators and be integral to the design and implementation of our 3-year strategic vision for gynaecology services. You will be supported by the Matron for Breast and Gynaecology Services and the Directorate team.
This is a full-time, 5 day/week position.
This role is based at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, however, you will provide cover for the Women's Health Unit Ward Manager, Redditch, in their absence. You may be required to travel countywide to enable this.

Main duties of the job
To ensure a high standard of nursing care at all times through the effective management of staff and resources on his/her allocated department
To demonstrate strong clinical leadership in stressful and challenging situations and act as role model
To promote a positive approach to new challenges and creative ways of working
To act as advocate for the designated area and liaise with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to co-ordinate all aspects of patient care in the best interests of the patient and family and deputise for the Matron as necessary
To ensure effective training and educational programmes are available by liaising with appropriate personnel to meet the training and educational needs of nurses in the clinical area
To carry continuing responsibility for the management of the Emergency Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy Assessment Units and Inpatient Unit including the deployment and supervision of staff and operational oversight of clinical activity
To carry, in the absence of the Ward Manager for the Women's Health Unit, continuing responsibility for the management of the Women's Health Unit, Redditch, including the deployment and supervision of staffing
To accept personal responsibility and accountability for infection prevention and control practice within the designated areas. Ensuring familiarity with and adherence to relevant local policies. Receiving mandatory updates in infection prevention and control

3. Management
To ensure that a duty rota for the staff within the department will provide effective and well-balanced cover to meet with the requirements of the service and ensures the presence of a suitably qualified and experienced nurse at all times - taking into account the budgetary constraints
To liaise with other Ward/Department Managers within the Directorate and other Directorates as necessary, to place workload and skill mix as effectively as possible.
To inform and discuss with Matron/Directorate Manager any problems regarding management of staff
Allocate, co-ordinate, monitor and assess the work of teams and individuals
To manage the department-allocated budget effectively to remain within financial constraints
To ensure effective two-way communication with all disciplines so that patients receive optimum care
