Job summary

The Haematology and Oncology Directorate are looking for a dynamic and organised individual to join our team as a Cancer Pathway Navigator. You will play a pivotal role in triaging, navigating and tracking patients along their pathway, co-ordinating all hospital appointments, investigations and their treatment, whilst also identifying and escalating patients who may potentially breach national and local waiting time targets and Cancer Standards, taking appropriate positive action to negate this possibility.

The post holder will work effectively across the directorate and other specialities involved in the delivery of cancer services, by providing high quality person centred care to patients whom are on a cancer pathway. The post holder will engage with and work alongside the senior medical staff, nursing staff, other health care professionals, management and administration teams, support services and partner organisations within the network as required to improve the patient journey.

If you feel that you are ready for a new challenge then we would like to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will possess excellent IT skills, knowledge of medical terminology and will have a good working knowledge of cancer pathways and cancer waiting times within an acute NHS Trust setting.

You must also be a confident communicator with the ability to liaise accurately with a wide range of different professional groups (both clinical and non-clinical).

Among your skills will be the ability to work in a fast moving, challenging environment while being able to keep focused on the job in hand.

The successful candidate will also have the following skills:-

  • Be able to analyse problems and suggest suitable solutions
  • Be able to prioritise tasks, work to deadlines and manage own time
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Effective negotiation and influencing skills
  • Have the ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Be able to work effectively in a team
  • Be adaptable to change
  • Knowledge of all cancer waiting times/targets
  • Competent in use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
