Job summary
Applicants
are invited to apply for the post of Locum Consultant Anaesthetist. Applicants
will be required to contribute to the general and obstetric on call rota.
The new
appointee will be expected to contribute to clinical governance meetings (at
present 11 per annum), audits and medical education including simulation
training within the Trust.
All
candidates must hold full GMC registration with a licence to practice, and
preferably already be on the Specialist Register in Anaesthesia at the time of
interview. FRCA (or equivalent) is an essential qualification for this post.
The Anaesthetic
department provides services to three sites (Worcestershire Royal Hospital,
Alexandra Hospital, Kidderminster Treatment Centre), encompassing all major
specialities with a strong countywide working ethos. Clinical governance is
fundamental to the operational delivery of anaesthetic services, and the
department was proud to receive Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation
(ACSA) in October 2018, recognising 100% compliance with ACSA standards.
Main duties of the job
The
Anaesthetic department is renowned for providing a highly supportive working
environment both for consultant colleagues and for trainees, for whom we
endeavour to provide the highest quality training opportunities.

will encompass a variety of anaesthetic subspecialties, with on-call
commitments at both Worcestershire Royal Hospital and The Alexandra Hospital,
Redditch. On call work will cover emergency theatres at the Alexandra Hospital
and emergency theatres and obstetrics at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. Further

upper GI, orthopaedic surgery, pre-operative assessment, obstetric anaesthesia,
head and neck or vascular surgery.
Provisional
Assessment of Programmed Activities in Job Plan:
Direct clinical care:
8.5 PAs per
week to include clinical activity, clinical related activity, predictable and
unpredictable on call. Cross-site travel time is included in each session of
direct clinical care.
Supporting Professional Activities:
1.5 SPAs per
week to support your CPD and revalidation related activities.
Additional PA
allocations are provided for leadership roles, educational supervision,
governance roles, being an appraiser or other pre-agreed additional activities.
On call: 1.5
PA on call and category A 3% on call availability supplement. Rota frequency is
anticipated to be 1:14 however may be subject to change to meet service
requirements to support Surgical reconfiguration
The successful
applicant will be expected to participate in the countywide general on call
rota which covers emergency theatres at the Alexandra Hospital and Obstetric
and emergency theatres at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
The on call
responsibility would involve both predictable and unpredictable elements. It is
expected that the predictable element would involve consultants being present
in the theatre suite during the evenings and during the daytime at weekends in
order to manage the service, provide leadership and clinical supervision. At
the Alexandra Hospital, the on call service is entirely consultant delivered
with the consultant being resident until 8pm and then on call from home. At the
Worcestershire Royal Hospital there are 4 resident trainees with the consultant
being resident until 8 pm on weekdays then on call from home. At both sites,
the weekend and bank holiday days are resident from 8am-6pm and then on call
from home.
On call
activity currently attract an allocation of 1.5 PAs of direct clinical care,
subject to review in line with monitoring exercises.
