Job summary

This is your opportunity to join the Worcestershire Acute NHS Trust Ophthalmic team as a full time band 2 health care assistant. We are a friendly Countywide team and our new innovative ways of working ensures a truly patient centred approach throughout our units.

The ophthalmology units consist of an Outpatient Consulting Suite together with a day care unit and operating theatres.

The post holder would be based in the Ophthalmology department at Worcester Royal Hospital and would support the clinic area of the department.

As a part of the countywide service delivering ophthalmic care you will be required to travel between sites on occasions.

You will need to be committed, enthusiastic, reliable and completely flexible in working hours to cover all clinic sessions.

Main duties of the job

  • To support professionally qualified staff in providing quality care for patients in roles, which are mainly related to patient care.
  • Care for a group of patients under supervision.
  • To prepare clinical rooms for outpatient clinics to ensure a smooth running clinic.
  • Visual acuity testing.
  • Intraocular pressure testing with the ORA.
  • Chaperoning patients within the clinical department.
  • Assisting the doctor within the laser clinic to maintain patient and relatives safety.
  • Assisting the registered nurse in the nurse-led pre-assessment clinic.
  • To be conversant with equipment and its use and the procedure for reporting faults.
  • To put away stock and help maintain stock levels.
  • To clear dirty instrument trolleys and rubbish and linen bags.
