Job summary
Worcestershire Royal Hospital Theatre complex comprises 8
operating theatres, obstetric theatre with an intervention suite and an 8
bedded recovery unit. The department
currently provides a seven-day week surgical service involving late duties,
nights and weekends and has a dedicated team of theatre practitioners and
support workers. We are seeking an
enthusiastic, motivated and professional Anaesthetic and Recovery band 6 team
leader.
The successful candidate will have experience within the
A&R role and will need to be an organised individual who can lead a team
ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and care are maintained. You will be able to monitor the use of
equipment and resources, ensuring cost effectiveness and the best use of
resources.
Excellent communication skills and flexibility will be an
essential trait of anyone applying for this post also deputising for members of
the Band 7 team will be a requirement. The development of junior colleagues
will be an important part of your role therefore a relevant teaching
certificate or experience is required
You will be a:
Operating Department Practitioner or Registered Nurse with
recent Anaesthetic and Recovery experience (anaesthetic qualification needed).
Main duties of the job
To ensure high standards of patient
care at all times through the effective management of staff and resources
To lead a regular programme of
education and development for registered and unregistered staff to optimum
potential
To promote the role of the theatre
practitioner as the patient advocate throughout the peri-operative process
To communicate effectively with all
members of the multi-disciplinary team to co-ordinate all aspects of patient
care
To liaise and work closely with the
person taking continuing responsibility for the operating theatres
To accept personal responsibility
and accountability for infection prevention and control practice
To deputise for the relevant senior
team leader as necessary

Management
- To be actively involved in staff management issues within the team in support of the senior team leader, in addition to actively participating in the management of the theatre department as necessary
- To take all measures to ensure safety and report all accidents/incidents/near misses to the theatre coordinator or senior team leader
- To assist the theatre management team with risk management, participating in the identification of risks
- To participate in official investigations where required
- To have an understanding of the theatre budget, ensuring efficient and effective utilisation of resources
- To be conversant with trust policies, procedures and to participate in the development of policies/procedures where appropriate
- To assist with the monitoring of staff attendance, and taking a supporting role in the maintenance of day to day discipline within the team
- To inform the senior team leader / theatre matron of staff failing to meet the required standard of performance taking appropriate action where required
