Job summary
This is a new
Consultant Orthodontist post based at The Worcestershire Royal Hospital (WRH) /
Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre (KTC). The successful candidate
would join four other Consultant Orthodontists to provide a comprehensive county-wide
service working within a multidisciplinary team.
The Orthodontic
department is part of the Head and Neck Directorate for which the current
overall Clinical Lead is Mr Kieron McVeigh, Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgeon. The Clinical Lead for the Orthodontic Service is Mr Peter Rice,
Consultant Orthodontist. The Head and Neck Directorate hold monthly meetings
which involve the Directorates general management team and ensure decision
making is open and transparent.
Orthodontics is currently
provided on 2 of the 3 main hospital sites WRH and KTC. Both sites have a laboratory with fully
qualified orthodontic technicians working to support all clinics.
The post-holder
will develop close collaborative links with Clinicians working in Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgery and develop local working for coordination of
interdisciplinary cases with regional specialties in Restorative and Paediatric
Dentistry. Close links also exist with the regional Cleft Lip and Palate Team
and Craniofacial Team at the Birmingham Childrens Hospital and Queen Elizabeth
Hospitals, Birmingham.

Main duties of the job

Director, on behalf of the Chief Medical Officer, to ensure that it
continually reflects the areas of work, clinical responsibility of the post
and purchaser requirements.
A suitably experienced post-holder will be
expected to provide a clinical service in the relevant specialty to patients
of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS patients Trust and to General
Practitioners.
The post-holder will provide support to the
A&E department and acute medicine to ensure timely appropriate care and
patient flow through the hospital.
The post-holder will provide consultation and
advisory service to clinical colleagues in the Trust and Primary Care.
The post-holder will attend cross county and
cross site meetings.
To collaborate with colleagues to deliver a
high quality, timely service and to work within multi-disciplinary teams in
providing high quality clinical care. It is anticipated work will be
undertaken on departmental objectives.

- Successful completion of an SAC approved 2-year minimum training programme in a Fixed Term Training Appointment (FTTA) in Orthodontics or within 6 months of completion of training, or equivalent, which follows on from the pre-CCST training period of 3 years, or equivalent
- Experience of a broad range of malocclusions and treatment modalities to an advanced level or have already held a post at consultant level
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining (UK) CCT in Orthodontics
- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
