Job summary

We are looking for an experienced therapeutic radiographer with a passion for the development of staff and students to join our friendly, patient focused team at the Worcestershire Oncology Centre.

The practice educator will have the opportunity to support and develop therapeutic radiographers as well as students (including apprentices) within the radiotherapy department at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Where are we? We are based in a new bespoke purpose built building on the Worcestershire Royal Hospital site, with beautiful views of the Malvern Hills and the Cotswolds. Worcester is a thriving city on the banks of the River Severn, close to areas of outstanding natural beauty. We have close links to the M5; Birmingham, Cheltenham and Bristol are all within easy reach.

We are a friendly team of approximately 35 radiographers. We strive to ensure that all patients are treated in a supportive and calming environment. As a result, we offer excellent support for patients including Radiographer led clinics as well as site specialist radiographers. We are an Elekta (and Mosaiq) equipped department, with a Toshiba (Cannon) wide bore CT scanner carrying out radiographer led Vsim utilizing Raystation.

Within the building there is a Macmillan Information Pod as well as an RVS café and shop within the building.

We provide placements for undergraduate students from Birmingham City University and our apprentices are supported by Sheffield Hallam University.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will ensure all post graduate and undergraduate radiographers have access and understanding of radiotherapy development and practices here at Worcestershire Oncology Centre.

The post holder will be expected to support newly qualified staff and international recruits utilising a preceptorship programme.

The post holder will be expected to engage with trust, HEI and wider ICS teams to promote therapeutic radiography as a career pathway to increase local recruitment into undergraduate programmes.

You will be expected to maintain clinical competency at Band 7 level and take on the full responsibilities of that role when required. Such as being able to operate radiotherapy equipment safely and accurately interpreting and applying radiation prescription plans, using clinical judgement to justify deviation from protocol. It is expected that the role will be approx. 60/40 split between practice educator and clinical duties.
