Job summary

We are pleased to be able to offer two suitably qualified Cardiac Physiologist an exciting opportunity to join our rapidly expanding, friendly team of Cardiac Physiologists at the Worcester Royal Hospital. The post holder will be expected to perform 12 lead ECGs, Ambulatory 24 hr ECG/BP Monitoring and Analysis, Event Monitoring, assist with Medical & Physiologist supervised Exercise Tolerance Tests and be prepared to develop skills in Echo, TOE, PPCI & Pacemaker Follow up. As a family friendly department, we are able to offer this position as full time or part time. We are able to offer flexible working patterns including four days a week. In view of the proposed 7-day service we would be happy to accommodate weekend working, if this is desirable. We have 16 Consultant Cardiologists within Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, and the trust comprises of three hospitals: Worcestershire Royal Hospital, the Alexandra Hospital, and Kidderminster Treatment Centre.

Main duties of the job

To work as a team member of the Cardiology Department, who is capable of performing a range of clinical investigations and duties To work as a team member to help provide a clinical service in performing and provisionally interpreting clinical investigations without direct supervision To continue to develop professional training and development, in all aspects of Cardiology carried out in the Cardiology Department, to include invasive and non-invasive procedures

The post holder is required to work independently on their own initiative to cover their own patient workloads. They will operate by general Trust, occupational and professional guidelines. They will have no direct supervision on a daily basis except for supervision in areas of further training, but they will refer to Senior Practitioners, Specialist Lead Physiologists and departmental manager if they require assistance on clinical or non-clinical issues Clinical/Technical Duties Ambulatory Monitoring:- To prepare and set up 24 hour ECG and Blood Pressure Ambulatory equipment and connect the equipment to patient and remove monitoring equipment from patients, download onto computer and analyse the 24-hour ECG/blood pressure recording, documenting a provisional report, gaining clinical information to assist Physicians in the patients management Cardiac Physiologist led ETTs: - To prepare patients for Cardiac Exercise Tolerance Tests (ETTs) and monitor the patients ECG and Blood Pressure during the test, assisting the Senior Grade Cardiac Physiologist to carry out the investigation Medical ETTs - To prepare patients and obtain technical and clinical information while performing medically supervised high risk ETTs with medical personnel, graded Senior House Officer or above Cardiac Catheterisation (Invasive):- To develop existing skills in monitor patients intra cardiac pressures and ECG whilst the patient is under going the invasive cardiac procedure. Immediately inform the operating clinician of any adverse reactions during the procedure. Responsible for cardiac massage and defibrillation in the event of a cardiac arrest, and preparing emergency pacing equipment for temporary pacing in the event of an emergency To prepare, perform and interpret Electrocardiograms on all categories of patients, informing a senior member of staff or relevant Physician immediately of any adverse abnormality that could be life threatening to the patient
