Job summary

We are excited to announce that at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, the Occupational Therapy Service has developed a NEW Band 6 Rotational Programme

Our Band 6 Senior Occupational Therapists play a crucial role in our organisation. They are viewed within the OT service as potential clinical leaders who will receive investment and support to become the best clinicians that they can. We have taken the time to look at which exciting clinical services we have to offer that can host these rotations and will develop the new Band 6 post holders using our Novice to Expert career framework

This is a framework which has been specifically designed to recognise that staff new to Band 6 roles will need a period of consolidation. It offers a clear demarcation between the expectations for a novice Band 6 OT and someone who is meeting the expectations and carrying responsibilities of an experienced Band 6 OT.

You will be working with, and supported by, a very experienced skilled workforce. These include our Clinical Strategic Lead OTs and Clinical Specialists

Our service also has a Clinical Practice & Education Lead who will work with our Band 6 clinicians, developing robust training and development

The aim of this multiple rotational programme will be to provide excellent learning opportunities. You will also be supported to attend the following training

  • Care Aims -this provides a strong clinical reasoning and decision framework
  • Coaching
  • Mentoring
  • Masters Modules

Main duties of the job

These will be 12 month Rotations, based at Worcestershire Royal Hospital and will offer clinical experience in the following areas:

  • Specialty Medicine You will develop a clinical portfolio that evidences a high level of acute illness management; manual handling assessment and management; extensive equipment knowledge and provision; cognitive assessment and application to occupational performance; end of life and palliative care management, as well as complex discharge management.
  • Stroke & Neurology - You will develop specialist skills knowledge and experience of hyper acute and acute stroke, complex care, and outpatient stroke and neurology. This will also include experience in Critical Care.
  • Trauma You will deliver modernised Occupational Therapy, focusing on providing acute assessments of Trauma patients. This involves a variety of upper and lower limb fractures, traumatic head injury and poly trauma cases.
  • Geriatric Emergency Medicine Service You will be provided with experience in the assessment and management of older adults with complex needs such as dementia and Parkinsons Disease management; complex manual handling needs; palliative and end of life care and Frailty. You will develop a working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act to support the patients decision-making skills. This will be an essential part of this role in order to meet the complex nature of the caseload. There will also be the opportunity to work in urgent care.
