Job summary

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen within the Worcestershire Dermatology Team. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Dermatology Clinical Nurse Specialist to lead the Inflammatory Dermatology nursing team as they move forward and continue to strive for excellence in patient care.

You will have responsibility for the provision and management of the Inflammatory Dermatology nursing service to meet the needs of local patients in accordance with national policies and initiatives. You will be expected to manage a case load of patients and utilise advanced practice nursing skills to deliver high quality and clinically effective patient care. As a non-medical prescriber you will undertake assessments and prescribe within your scope of practice to agreed guidelines and protocols.

The post holder will be a key worker from diagnosis, care planning, evaluating the efficacy of treatment and throughout the patient journey. Working alongside other CNS colleagues and registered nurses we are looking for someone to provide professional and managerial leadership to the Dermatology inflammatory nursing team. Main duties of the job

  • To be responsible and accountable for the provision, management of an inflammatory and dermatology nursing service that meets the needs of patients in accordance with national and local polices and initiatives.
  • The post holder will manage a case load of patients and ensure that their practice is delivered at an advanced level and deliver high quality and clinically effective patient care.
  • The post holder will work as a key worker for patients from pre-diagnosis and throughout the patient journey.
  • Programmes of practice development will be creatively delivered for staff both in the hospital and community who will be managing dermatology patients.
  • Alongside other CNS colleagues provide professional and managerial leadership to the dermatology nursing team.
  • As a non-medical prescriber you will undertake assessments and prescribe within your scope of practice and experience and under agreed guidelines and protocols.

Collaborate with Lead Clinician for dermatology in the development of the inflammatory service and ensure practice is patient centred.

Demonstrate advanced practice in holistic assessment of patient care within the dermatology service which is evidence based.

To demonstrate advanced knowledge, skill and innovative practice, act as a role model with high standards and provide clinical leadership within the dermatology service.

To demonstrate levels of autonomy and advocacy. To work as a member of the MDT in dermatology, ENT, plastic surgery coordinating care.

Support/deliver patch testing, biologic and systemic monitoring clinics.

To support patients and families who may have emotional difficulties adapting to dermatology.

To receive direct patient referrals, undertaking differential diagnosis and ensuring the delivery of care for patients in the speciality.

To initiate the process of patients to specialist centres and other care settings.

To develop specialist protocols as required to include nurse led clinics for patients within the speciality.

Perform therapeutic procedures this will include patch testing and phototherapy application.

Provide specialist nursing for patients undergoing major surgery.

To provide expert, clinical and professional advice and support to patients and carers and act as a specialist resource for GPs, community and practice nurses in the management of conditions.

To identify the educational needs of the specialist group of patients and ensure that these are met through the service provided.

To establish and maintain a network of contacts in the speciality.

To work proactively in managing change within the dermatology service to improve practice and health outcomes for patients.

To assess and monitor risk in own and others practice acting on the results thereby ensuring safe delivery of care.

To facilitate, develop and monitor quality initiatives in line with local and national requirements e.g. NICE improving outcomes guidance.

To maintain an accurate clinical record of patient contact.

To work with others to adjust boundaries within the specialty.

To identify areas of practice which may be expanded to ensure the best clinical outcomes for the patients.

Responsible for the production of assessment quality digital images of suspected skin cancers and lesions, subsequent to obtaining written consent.
