Job summary

The Digital Information team is looking to boost its Business Intelligence Platform by adding a new BI Developer to a highly successful team.

Each of our Business Intelligence Developers are lead designers with autonomous responsibility over a variety of projects. However, if this sounds daunting and youre fresh into this level of role, dont worry, we will provide support and training to help build your confidence.

We are primarily an on-premises Microsoft BI Stack organisation. Therefore, youll need an excellent working knowledge of SQL Server, our primary development tool. A history of SSIS/SSRS is advantageous. However, given the current restructure of our Platform, experience with SSAS (Cubes/Tabular Models) will give a definite edge. You will also be given opportunities to learn SSIS, PowerBI, PowerShell and integration with Azure DevOps.

Organisationally, we commit to improving patient care through all roles. Therefore, Digital BI integrates with Digital IT to deliver reporting across all new/upgraded applications. This paves the way for trend analysis and forecasting across over 70 datasets. The largest project supports Sunrise, our Electronic Patient Record which coalesces patient data from multiple core systems for consultants.

In terms of location, this role is a hybrid between office / remote working, with an in-office presence expected twice a week.

Interviews will be on location, at Worcester Royal. Previous candidates need not apply.

Main duties of the job

Each developer role splits into two halves; Projects work and Adhocs. Project work focuses on longer term projects, involving multiple stakeholders, deploying into an integrated warehouse platform. Adhocs reflect bite-size pieces of work, created to support analyst requirements and system upgrades.

As with any BI Developer role, there exists a certain degree of bug fixing and maintenance.

High Level Overview

  • To lead and manage dedicated long term projects, communicating with appropriate departments/people, utilising a GIRFT approach
  • Assist with Data Warehouse upgrades in-line with Digital IT application upgrades
  • Assist with the overarching 3 year BI delivery plan, affirming and rewriting legacy code into the new platform
  • Assist with teaching / education of analytical staff
  • To monitor / maintain viability of SQL Jobs & Data Flows, bug fixing as required
  • Provide suggestions to improve data flow processes
  • Review new or upgraded technologies in the BI industry. Suggest potential applications
  • To assist on-call, as required
