Job summary

Our Trust has embarked on a three-year partnership with the internationally renowned Virginia Mason Institute to support us on our Continuous Improvement journey. You will join a new and innovative team who are creating, designing and delivering the 4ward Improvement system alongside the Virginia Mason Institute, Acute Trust Directors and Executive team.

The 4ward Improvement System is a systemic approach to training, coaching and empowering all our people to develop the skills and mind set to make improvement part of their everyday work.

Through embedding a culture of continuous improvement, the 4ward Improvement System enables us to fulfil our purpose of Putting Patients First, and ensure we provide high-quality, safe and effective care, with the best experiences for our patients and staff.

The Improvement team are key to delivering the 4ward Improvement system training, coaching and mentoring all of our people who are rapidly joining our improvement journey to ensure it is successfully implemented and most importantly sustainable.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about making a difference, supporting colleagues and teams to improve their daily work and also support large scale improvement work across the Trust. It is a high-profile role involving interaction with all clinical and non-clinical roles as well as our patients. This ensures all our people and patients voices are heard and inform the improvement work.

Full training and support will be provided.

Main duties of the job

Our Trust is using our 4Ward Improvement System to help us to improve the services we provide to our patients. The 4Ward Improvement System will help equip and empower those who do the work to improve the work, every day. The patient is at the heart of all that we do and the 4Ward Improvement System will create a culture of continuous improvement and respect for all.

The role of the Improvement Team is to support and develop a culture of Continuous Improvement through a range of improvement events, workshops, training, coaching and support.

The post holder will deliver training and provide coaching in the 4Ward Improvement System for a range of health care staff across the organisation, ensuring successful and sustained implementation of the 4Ward Improvement System.

The post holder will provide support to the Senior improvement specialists, work place leaders and colleagues throughout our Trust to ensure improvement events for large scale complex change are successful and to ensure agreed improvements are sustained. This will require successful completion of 4Ward Improvement System training.

Develop specialist knowledge in all aspects of the 4Ward Improvement System

Deliver entry level 4Ward Improvement System training to a range of stakeholders using a range of delivery methods, including classroom, lecture theatre and virtual

Adapt and update training materials to ensure they are relevant to the audience

Influence, coach and support colleagues to implement the learning from the training courses and coach them to overcome any obstacles or barriers.

Support and facilitate front line staff to successfully complete the workplace improvements

Assess improvement work against agreed learning criteria, ensuring training delegates receive constructive feedback as appropriate

Provide information for management reports, such as delegate numbers, evaluations and benefits realised from attending training

Improvement Events:

Collate, analyse, monitor and present data using a range of specialist 4Ward Improvement System tools and techniques.

Build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues at all levels of the organisation. This will be particularly important as the role involves a significant amount of observation work within clinical and non-clinical areas

In conjunction with the Senior Improvement Specialists, plan and prepare improvement events and activities

Participate in improvement events, which may include presenting, facilitating and capturing information during the events

Support and coach front line staff with implementation of changes in practice, which may involve conflicting views between senior professionals and other stakeholders

Support a range of value stream improvement activities, which will involve working directly with stakeholders who are leading and implementing large scale, complex change

Undertake a range of improvement activities independently, which may involve leading small scale improvement projects as delegated by the Senior Improvement Specialists

Co-ordinate the set-up and administration of a range of improvement events and activities

Liaise with representatives from the Patients and Public Forum (PPF) regarding participation in and attendance at improvement events

Promote the use of the 4Ward Improvement system using a range of communication channels, helping to embed a culture of continuous improvement

Develop and maintain documentation to track value stream improvement activity, Key Performance Indicators and benefits realised from improvement interventions
