Occupational Therapist opportunities at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
These posts would be
suited to Band 5s with some post graduate neurology rotational experience or
novice Band 6s looking to specialise in these wonderful and rewarding areas.
The potential candidates would be supported and developed through our Novice to Expert career framework. This
is a framework that offers a clear demarcation between the
expectations for a novice Band 6 OT and someone who is meeting the expectations
and carrying responsibilities of an experienced Band 6 OT.
You will be supported by a very
experienced workforce. These include Clinical Strategic Lead OTs & Clinical Specialists. Our service
also has a Clinical Practice & Education Lead who works with our Band 6
clinicians, developing robust training & development.
You will be part
of the monthly Neuro in-service training programme and a new MDT Therapy
Stroke Training programme with the Community Stroke Team and Evesham Community Hospital.
You
will be supported to attend a variety of training:
Introduction to
Bobath,
Splinting in
Neurology,
Braintree
Cognitive Package,
Posture and
Seating,
We would also be happy to support your 1st annual membership fee with RCOT Specialist section for Neurological Practice.
Main duties of the job
Your caseload will have an emphasis on
patients with acute stroke or a neurological illness or critical care requiring
excellent assessment and treatment skills and the ability to discharge the
patient onto the most appropriate rehabilitation service; this includes working
within tight timeframes.
Internal rotations include:
Hyper Acute and Acute Stroke
This is an opportunity to
enhance initial assessment skills, intervention planning, and discharges of
Acute Stroke patients. There is an emphasis on multi-disciplinary working
in particular joint initial neurological assessment of patients with Neuro
Physiotherapists and joint therapy sessions with Speech and Language
Therapists.
Complex Care
The newly developed
Complex Care team has been designed to include patients that have complex needs
and therefore require more specialist assessments and interventions focusing on
cognition, orientation, delirium, application and interpretation of
standardised tests, upper limb and splinting, seating and positioning and
therapeutic manual handling. This rotation includes in-reach to Critical Care, cross
site working and out-reach into the community.
Neuro
Outpatients
This service provides assessment and intervention to patients with a neurological diagnosis
to facilitate occupations that matter to them using functional, remedial and
education approaches. Rehabilitation of cognitive and upper limb deficits, driver screening assessments and upper limb splinting.

Job responsibilities
- To
hold an active caseload within Stroke, Neurology, Complex Care, within
Occupational therapy across both in and outpatient services.
- To
provide Occupational Therapy assessment, treatment and discharge planning to
patients within the acute service with a special emphasis on patients with a
