ESTEP Care Coordinator, 3 days per week, 3 month fixed term contract

The closing date is 09 April 2026

Job summary

This post is for 3 days per week only and for a 3 month fixed term contract

ESTEP is the Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) Service that covers South East Essex and we are looking for an experienced mental health nurse to work as an EIP Care Co-ordinator within the team. We seek someone who has existing community experience within an EIP setting and who has a passion for working with this client group. The role is community/office based.

Main duties of the job

Being part of someone's journey towards recovery is extremely powerful and rewarding. For people who have had a psychotic illness we offer a 3-year period of engagement with the team, this means that practitioners can take time to establish relationships and agree plans of care.

There are clear NICE guidelines in terms of a care plan offer and what should be included. Much of the first few months are about getting to know the person you are working with to develop trust and a shared understanding about what a person is experiencing and why.

The skills required to be an effective EIP practitioner are: to adapt your working approach to establish relationships with those people you work with, to balance clinical activity with good standards of record keeping on the electronic record, to be able to provide psychoeducation around psychosis, to be able to use assessment tools , to be able to engage with friends/families/carers, to be able to contribute to an MDT setting, to be able to engage in supervision and training, to have a good understanding of medication and the benefits of these, to have an understanding of CBT and the evidence that surrounds this to aid peoples recovery from psychosis. To be effective and skilled in assessing and managing risks, to be skilled in care planning.
