Job summary
You will contribute to the Medically Managed Detox Service within Topaz Ward helping to facilitate inpatient detoxification within an acute ward setting.
You will provide high quality, evidence-based, holistic care to service users in line with trust policies. You will undertake pre-admission assessments, plan, implement and evaluate care for patients requiring medically managed drug/alcohol detoxification. You will also be liaising with outside referral agencies to ensure a smooth discharge back into the community/rehabilitation where appropriate. This will be based upon individual service user's needs, under the guidance of the Specialist Detox Nurse as per NICE guidance.
You will also act as a mentor to students, return to practice nurses and junior staff. You will also be responsible for supervising unqualified staff.
You will be expected to work collaboratively with key partner organisations within the East of England, service users, carers, clinicians and other practitioners within the service in delivering services.

Main duties of the job
- Assist in the management and care of service users requiring specialist prescribing interventions within the Medically Managed Detox Service on Topaz Ward.
- Produce accurate and timely documentation/records on all service users in line with relevant codes, CQC and Trust
- Conduct / contribute to the assessment process, as well as the observation and ongoing assessment including CIWA/COWS, providing accurate and timely feedback to the detox service and ward staff alike.
- Participate in the planning, implementation / evaluation and ongoing review of recovery/discharge plans.
- Responsible for the recording of all service users related activity information onto Paris
- Carry out risk assessments including any potential hazards in the service users environment
- Attend multi-disciplinary meetings i.e. referral / review / business
- Report and document incidents as required - referring onto outside service where appropriate
- Act as a key worker under supervision of a registered clinician
- Provide support to service users to promote adherence with medication and treatment regimes in line with Trust policy including
- Safe transportation and storage of medicines, checking receipt, storage of medicines in medicine cupboard
- Undertake physical health checks of service users including LFT's, dry blood spot testing, urinalysis, ECG's, blood taking
- Be competent in use of relevant screening and assessment tools
