Senior Clinical Psychologist
This job is now closed
Job summary
We are seeking to recruit a Clinical Psychologist with a passion for working with older people to a permanent full-time position in our MSNAP accredited Specialist Dementia and Frailty Service. Our team bases are in Colchester and Clacton and serve the North East locality of the Trust.
We are a cohesive, supportive and well-regarded team working within an age inclusive Specialist Dementia Service at The King's Wood Centre. The service is commissioned and developed to meet the needs of people with dementia, their families and those who care for them.
Main duties of the job
This is an excellent opportunity for those wanting to develop clinical leadership and further consolidate supervisory responsibilities, alongside working with service users both individually and as part of a dedicated and compassionate team. The role will be varied, including assessment, formulation and provision of evidence based psychological therapies for people with dementia and providing consultation to our multidisciplinary colleagues. It offers opportunities to provide neuropsychological assessments in the Memory Assessment Service, post diagnostic support via the Living Well with Dementia group, and supervision of our Mild Cognitive Impairment Practitioner. You will also support service development and evaluation in conjunction with the Consultant Lead Psychologist.
We are undergoing a period of service transformation and it is envisaged that the role will broaden to also include provision of psychological therapies for older adults without dementia.
We enjoy close academic and training links with the University of Essex Doctoral Training Course in Clinical Psychology and you will be expected to provide placements for trainees and contribute to teaching on the DClinPsych and EPUT CAP training courses.
About us
You will be well supported by four qualified Psychologists and three Assistant Psychologists who provide input across our older adult inpatient wards, Memory Assessment Service and Mild Cognitive Impairment pathway. Supervision will be provided by a senior Psychologist and you will also benefit from access to the wider professional network of Clinical Psychologists and Special Interest Groups within EPUT.
Your professional development is important to us and there will be opportunities for CPD related to career progression. Our interests are diverse and team members have undertaken post qualification training in neuropsychology, IPT, ACT, CFT, EMDR and CBT.
Applications from newly qualified Clinical Psychologists are welcomed. If you are newly qualified and appointed at band 7, the post will be considered developmental. You will be expected to consolidate skills and work towards increased confidence and autonomy during a transitional period. Experience of working with older adults is an advantage, but we will support you to develop the skills needed. On demonstrating knowledge, training and experience consistent with band 8a, you can expect your transition to band 8a to be supported.
We will also support you to work flexibly where necessary around caring roles and other commitments.
