Job summary

We have an interesting and exciting opportunity for a 1 WTE Band 8a Practitioner Psychologist to join our Psychological Services team and deliver a psychological service to clients identified as having a First Episode of Psychosis, based in South East Essex.

We are looking for a psychologist who is able to manage and work positively and proactively both with MDTs, and with people who present to our services with psychosis. An interest in completing CBT for Psychosis or other advanced training would be an advantage. The Trust actively supports CPD, and you will be encouraged to develop your skills and areas of interest where they meet service needs. Most of our psychologists have completed further clinical training, including in CBTp, Family Interventions, Schema Therapy, CAT, DBT and EMDR.

We would welcome applications from trainees who will be qualifying in the near future who would be looking for a Band 7 Preceptorship opportunity.

Main duties of the job

As a senior professional within a community team you will responsible (under supervision of a senior psychologist) for screening and prioritising referrals, conducting comprehensive assessments, and delivering interventions within a community setting. You will promote social inclusion and empower service users within their mental health recovery and in maintaining their social systems. You will also consult to the team, and may be involved in supervising other professions, alongside management and supervision of junior staff. This is a varied and busy role which provides a community service to the local population from age 16 upwards. It is an experienced and supportive team within an innovative and developing service. Although based in Rochford, the successful applicant will be required to work across the Southend, Castlepoint and Rochford localities.

The successful applicant will join a wider team of Psychologists as part of the Essex Support and Treatment in Early Psychosis (ESTEP) team. This is a supportive, highly skilled, established and professional team of psychologists working in Early Intervention in South Essex area of Essex Partnership University Trust. We have close links with other community mental health teams and colleagues within In-Patient settings.

The psychologists in the team work autonomously within professional guidelines to provide a high quality specialist psychology service to service users, their families, and other professionals/services involved in the life and care of service users. All work conducted by the psychologists in the team is underpinned by evidence based practice, NICE guidance, and DH guidance.

To be responsible for robust assessment and formulation of a service users psychological needs. To offer highly skilled care-planning in response to the formulation and communicate this accordingly to those involved in the care of the service user. To ensure that effective, tailored, evidence based psychological assessments and interventions are delivered to service users and their families

To work in collaboration with colleagues, teams and other services towards the overall provision of evidence based, cost effective, direct and indirect interventions to service users, and other stake holders. To actively contribute to the decision making process of how scarce resources are utilised wisely and appropriately.

To contribute to the management of referrals by attending the daily MDTs and other relevant team meetings. To assist colleagues to develop working hypotheses of service users presenting needs, informing the next steps in their care.

To assist in and contribute to the development of services, teams, projects and interventions. To contribute to the review and evaluation of these developments. To give expert clinical advice to management about the effectiveness of interventions and models of care.
