Job summary
We are currently looking for a Therapy Assistant to join our Inpatient therapy team which provides Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy input to our patients in the Epping Forest Unit, St Margaret's. Hospital. Patients are either direct admissions from the community or transferred from acute hospitals.
Main duties of the job
Under the guidance of qualified Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists, you will be responsible for undertaking treatment plans which include supporting patients to carry out exercise programmes and practice of mobility, washing, dressing and kitchen tasks.
Good IT skills are required for equipment ordering and record keeping.
Relevant experience of working in a healthcare setting as an assistant is required. You will need to demonstrate a flexible approach to your work, good time management and organisational skills and have the ability to work on your own initiative in a busy environment.
It is essential that you possess a current driving licence and have access to a car for work purposes.

- Identify appropriate walking aids, correctly adjusting them and other appliances to fit the patient and teaching patients how to use and maintain them.
- Obtain consent prior to treatment; this may require sensitivity, an ability to motivate and reassure patients to achieve a successful outcome from treatment
- To establish working relationships with other members of the multidisciplinary team and contribute to a high standard of patient care.
- To work collaboratively with patients and their families and establish therapeutic relationship with patients, relatives and carers to engage them in the rehabilitation process.
- To exhibit and maintain a high standard of competence in the skills taught and a professional attitude, observing the rules of confidentiality and respecting the patients rights.
- To have a practical understanding of therapeutic handling techniques to facilitate safe practices in rehabilitation.
- Be required to assist and support patients with activities of daily living including washing, dressing and kitchen activities.
