Job summary

We are looking for an 8a Paediatric Clinical Psychologist post in a well established service in the South Essex area. This is an opportunity for applicants with an interest in developing skills in this specialist area and with experience in child and adolescent mental health services. The post-holder will provide specialist psychological assessments and treatment interventions working in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team mainly within a hospital environment for children and young people with long term conditions including diabetes, cystic fibrosis and oncology.

This post offers excellent clinical leadership and service development experiences. Further development through the appraisal process and additional leadership/relevant training can be considered with up to £6000 being available over a period of 2-3 years.

Main duties of the job

Qualifications and Experience required:

Doctoral level training or equivalent in clinical psychology, including specifically, models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS. Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups below the age of 18 with presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.

This post is linked to the Clinical Health Psychology Service which is integrated with mental health and community services within the Essex Partnership NHS Trust which specialises in the management of mental health and physical health comorbidity, and varying presentations in physical health conditions, including Cancer & Palliative Care, COPD and respiratory problems, CFS, chronic pain management, Diabetes. Education / Qualifications

Essential

  • Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology as accredited by the BPS or equivalent for those who trained prior to 1996. Training to have included psychometric testing, models of psychopathology, neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Highly developed skills of communication of complex, highly sensitive or technical information both orally and in writing to clients, their families, carers or professional colleagues.
  • Skilful manipulation of psychological test equipment requiring precision, accuracy and sustained concentration.
  • Skills in conducting complex specialist assessments and integrated interventions requiring frequent sustained and intense concentration.
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.

  • Pre-training experience of working with children and their families

  • Knowledge of legislation, national and local polices and current development in the field of paediatric clinical psychology.
  • Knowledge of research methodology, design and analysis to a clinical psychology doctoral degree standard.
