The purpose of Early Intervention in Psychosis Service is to provide help for young people and adults experiencing a first episode of psychosis. This is in order to;
- Reduce distress
- Promote recovery
- Support carers and care networks
- Provide psycho-education and awareness
- Reduce stigma associated with psychosis and other co-morbid mental health conditions
- Prevention of relapse
- Monitor physical health and promote physical wellbeing
- Promote social and community inclusion

As part of the Band 2 HCA role you will be enrolled onto the Apprenticeship scheme, providing you with the opportunity to earn as you learn. This role enables you to gain valuable experience on the wards/community settings whilst working towards gaining your Care Certificate and naturally progressing into the guaranteed Band 3 HCA role.
Main duties of the job
As a Community Support Worker, you will work within the multidisciplinary team across the Mid Essex geographical area to support people experiencing a first episode of psychosis. You will look to address the physical health and wellbeing needs of individuals within a recovery based model. You will be actively involved in engaging with people experiencing psychosis and their families and supporting qualified members of the team to offer planned interventions recommended by NICE clinical guidelines, including but not limited to monitoring mental health, social inclusion, practical planning with life skills, managing risk, offering family interventions and carers assessment and input. In addition it is anticipated that the worker would support our Senior Support Worker with Physical Health Checks. This will involve the assessment and recording of physical health and lifestyle, action planning, as well as development and implementation of activities and lifestyle action plans either 1:1 or in a group setting. You will have the support and supervision from Band 6 colleagues and Team Lead.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Community Support Worker to join the Mid Essex First Episode Psychosis Team, based at The Gables in Braintree. We are currently developing and expanding our Early Intervention in Psychosis Service and this is an exciting time to join and shape this emerging service.
The team uses a Multi-disciplinary approach to provide care, promote recovery and social inclusion to people from the age of 14-65 years who are experiencing, or are at risk of developing, a First Episode Psychosis. This is an excellent opportunity to develop skills of working with this group of service users in the community. This role will require the postholder to work across the geographical locality of Mid Essex.
You will be able to draw on the interventions and expertise provided by your MDT colleagues such support workers, CPNs, Social Workers, Psychologists, Employment Specialists, Peer Support Worker and Medical Colleagues.
Some of your typical duties as a community support worker may include (but are not limited to):
- Supporting the qualified clinicians with developing and implementing care plans and co-working complex clients with a first episode of psychosis
- Support with the running physical health check clinics and promoting a healthy lifestyle clinics
- Develop and facilitate community based groups that support the agenda of physical health and mental wellbeing
- Encourage and support service users to engage with their local community
- Assist Senior Clinicians in the risk assessment and management of complex cases
- Identify any possible safeguarding concerns and escalate to your supervisors
- Support the promotion of carer and service user involvement within the service and participate in training associated with this
- Completing carers assessments and facilitating carers groups
- Attend team meetings i.e. referral/zoning/business as appropriate
- Support service users to identify strengths, personal interests and achievements and work towards meaningful recovery goals.
- Produce accurate and timely documentation/records on all service users in line with relevant codes and Trust policy
