We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated Learning Disability Practitioner (Nurse, OT or Social Worker) to join us in the Essex Children's Learning Disability Service (CLDS). The CLDS is an Essex wide, community based provision for children aged between 5-18, who have a diagnosis of Moderate to Severe Learning Disability, and who engage in difficult to manage behaviour within their home environment.
Main duties of the job
The team offers specialist assessment and treatment for children, with the aim of developing individual and evidence based Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plans. There is a focus on providing education for parents and carers relating to the possible reasons for their children's behaviour, in addition to the practicalities of how this can be prevented and/or managed.
Assessments offered by the team presently include: Functional Behaviour Assessment; Sensory Processing Assessment and Community Based Sleep Assessment. Direct work with children is also offered, and includes Emotional Wellbeing Support and Relationships and Sex Education.
Professionals within the team currently include those from a Nursing (both RNLD and RMN) and Occupational Therapy background, although professionals from other relevant backgrounds will be considered. The CLDS places a strong value on multi-professional working, both internally, and with the wider systems involved with children accessing the service and their families to ensure that the care provided is holistic and well coordinated.

On a day to day basis, this will include working within family homes, schools and clinic settings, undertaking observations and assessments both with children and their caregivers, formulating assessment reports and intervention plans, and supporting implementation of intervention plans either by colleagues within the team, or by caregivers in the community.

- Knowledge of specialist intervention/treatment, i.e. ABA / sensory integration
