Job summary

A really exciting opportunity has arisen to develop a multidisciplinary ADHD service across Mid and South Essex. This 8b post will be involved in further developing this new service helping to work towards the alignment with the South Essex Aspergers Service and a more comprehensive neurodevelopmental service in the future.

This position offers excellent clinical leadership and service development experiences. This post and service are the beginning of a journey to explore the potential for the development of neurodevelopmental services and within this a leadership/expert role. With this in mind, further development through the appraisal process and additional leadership/neurodevelopmental training can be considered with up to £6000 being available over a period of 2-3 years .

Main duties of the job

The postholder will lead this new MDT team consisting of psychiatry, psychology, nursing and pharmacy. These posts will be crucial in spanning the clinical delivery of assessment and intervention both psychological as well as pharmacological for people with suspected ADHD who are not already known to secondary mental health services. The team will integrate and work in partnership with local Primary Care Networks (PCNs) and IAPT services to develop further support for individuals. There will be a role for training and consultation to the PCNs and mental health colleagues in secondary and primary care services as well as in the wider community.

The Trust has a well-respected clinical psychology department, with clinical psychology integrated within most specialisms and involved with the planning and strategic implementation of new and existing services.

We hold the development of people within our department as crucial to delivering key targets for the service and the Trust. The Service enjoys good links with and supervises clinical psychology trainees from the University of East Anglia, University of Hertfordshire, University of Essex and University College, London training schemes. Clinical research, teaching and specialised interests are actively encouraged. As well as formal courses, members of the department have enjoyed secondments and placements at several centres of excellence. Current members of the department are clinical tutors on training courses, hold honorary lecturer and fellowship positions and have involvement as fellows at CSIP/NIMHE.

The successful candidate will ensure that systems are in place and working effectively for the clinical and professional delivery of psychological services, including the supervision and support of psychological and nursing professionals with the team.

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • Doctoral level training in Clinical or Forensic Psychology or equivalent for those who trained prior to 1996, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS.
  • HCPC registered, and eligible for registration with a professional clinical body (BPS).
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS and HCPC by completion of CPD log demonstrating a minimum of 40 hours per year
  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration
