An exciting opportunity has arisen in Secure Services, for a highly motivated, dynamic and forward thinking leader to take up the post matron/clinical lead at Brockfield House. We are looking for a committed individual who is flexible, proactive, and enthusiastic with a special interest in Secure Services.
The successful candidate will provide operational management responsibility for their area providing effective leadership and lead responsibility for the standards of clinical practice and services. This will include effective management of the multi-disciplinary team and financial budgets.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide effective and safe services which support the key elements of clinical governance and focus on leading the clinical teams to introduce ways of continuous improvement in the quality of their services and safeguarding high standards of care by creating an environment in which excellence will flourish.
The post holder will ensure that improvements in the planning, implementation and evaluation of care are based on services user, carers and staff involvement and feedback from partner agencies and promote a model of recovery and social inclusion and facilitate evidence based care.
The post holder will have responsibility and accountability for the management of staff in the designated area; ensuring that staff are supervised, appraised, offered advice, and developed to their best potential with educational needs met within the Multi-disciplinary Team, including students allocated to the wards.

Our EPUT NHS staff bank is an entity managed by the trust that hires clinical and non-clinical healthcare professionals to take on shifts at our trust hospitals and community settings. Here at EPUT we maintain our own bank of specialist staff to ensure that we are able offer safe and effective care at all times.
All our permanent staff are automatically enrolled onto the staff bank however this does not mean you have to work any additional shifts, but the option is there for you if you wish.

Job responsibilities
- In liaison with the Director and Associate Director for Specialist to set and implement objectives for the delivery of care within the area and to devise ways of implementing and monitoring these.
- To work closely with the Associate Director for Specialist in developing nursing practice across inpatient wards.
- Matrons/ Clinical Leads are key personnel within the organisation and as such must embrace the vision and values of the Trust.
- The post holder will have lead responsibility for developing the quality of care and the standards of support services, which support the delivery of care. This will be achieved by developing effective working partnerships with:
a. Ward Managers to identify key issues to be addressed to improve the standards of clinical practice.
b. Director and Associate Director to ensure that developments support the modernisation of the NHS as set out in current guidance.
c. Relevant senior managers, to determine the service standards for support services.
d. Deputy Medical Director to identify key issues to be addressed for service standards and medical practice.
e. Directorate of Nursing and Clinical Governance to ensure that the key milestones set out in national policy and the Trust Nursing Strategy are achieved.
f. Patient Advocacy Liaison Service, to learn lessons from the patients experience to support effective planning and evaluation of services.
g. Relevant Operational Managers, to ensure that clinical services are organised and delivered in the most effective and efficient way.
- The post holder will have exceptional knowledge/understanding of the legislation likely to be encountered as part of the role e.g. Mental Health Act 1983, as amended in 2007, Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, Access to Information Act 1986, Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
- Ensure full compliance with standards laid out in the Trusts CPA Policy
- Ensure that all investigated incidents, complaints, accidents and are appropriately documented in a timely manner and submitted to the Director
- Ensure that staff are mindful and that all infection control issues are addressed and all Trust policies are adhered to
- Inform Director and Associate Director of all potential breaches of nursing professional conduct as required by the NMC Code of Professional Conduct
- Be responsible for updating own knowledge of contemporary mental health services and a commitment to continuing ones own personal career development in line with Trust Appraisal and Development Policy.
