Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and inventive Psychologist who is interested in working with individuals and families post stroke and with an engaged MDT team in stroke care. This post is based in the Acute Stroke Wards at Southend Hospital and is part of a pathway of psychological care into the community. The EPUT Southend Psychological Services in Stroke have grown to include colleagues working posts covering Community Stroke Team, Early Supported Discharge Team and the community rehabilitation ward. We also provide community stroke psychology services in Mid Essex.

The post holder will have skills and knowledge in neuropsychological and therapeutic approaches and will be able to apply these in a neurorehabilitation setting.

Main duties of the job

This growth and development is something which is a core part of the service and it is the close relationships we hold with acute and community teams which make this possible. The service provides one-to-one and group interventions for individuals who have experienced stroke and their families on the ward and in outpatients, and collaborative work with our MDT teams in joint sessions, consultation and training. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring high quality care is delivered in a timely manner in line with client needs, our wider services and national guidance.

This service lead role will offer the post holder the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills in supervision, service development and wider initiatives in the Clinical Psychology Service. Within the Clinical Health Teams in South, Mid and West Essex there are five other service leads in, Stroke Community (South/Mid), Mental Health Liaison, Breathlessness and Long COVID services for peer support.The post holder will be supervised by the Head of Clinical Health Psychology.

Within the Clinical Health Psychology Services, there are a range of therapeutic interests; narrative therapy, systemic approaches, acceptance and commitment therapy, motivational interviewing and cognitive behaviour therapy. Neuropsychological skills are fundamental to this post. The post holder will be skilled in neuropsychological assessment but a working knowledge of the application of neuropsychological formulation in rehabilitation approaches is essential. This will be supported through supervision and peer relationships in Clinical Health and Older Adults Psychology Services.

Attached to this post is up to£6000of CPD funding over the course of 3 years, for a skills specific training need within the service. We want to provide staff with high quality training to meetneeds and ensure that we are offering the best possible interventions to the populations we serve.
