Job summary

The Learning Disability Service within Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an experienced enthusiastic self-motivated nurse to join their in-patient service. The service is approaching an exciting new era of service provision working alongside partners and commissioners to provide an Essex wide LD service. The in-patient unit Byron Court has faced new developments and changes to the environment which will ensure that the service is fit for purpose. The role of the Deputy Ward Manager will be to actively participate in ensuring that the in-patient service is able to deliver the services described within the service specification for the LD service whilst acknowledging any need for change within the geographic area and in the care group. The role will also include being a role model for staff working in this area and showing ability to lead staff through change and transformation.

The post holder will be based in Byron Court, a seven bedded assessment and treatment unit for those people with learning disabilities and/or autism. The post holder will be expected to be actively involved in the development of the service as well as the management of junior staff and students. The team consists of qualified nurses and support workers with a close working relationship with the wider multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will be accountable to the Ward Manager.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an RNLD or equivalent with a minimum 3 years at Band 5 level with demonstrable experience of leadership.

The post-holder will be actively involved in the provision of clinical leadership and to be a clinical role model for the LD in-patient team. The role will be full-time, with the post-holder expected to work alongside the existing ward shift pattern and to be accessible to both the ward staff and the wider multi-disciplinary team and stakeholders. The purpose of the job includes:

1. To provide quality evidence-based nursing advice, support and care for patients and their carers within a multi-disciplinary setting.2. To participate in the development, maintenance and audit of clinical standards within the ward e.g. electronic patient records, risk assessments.3. To be actively involved in the overseeing of the assessment, planning,implementation and evaluation of nursing care within agreed parameters.4. To have a working knowledge of local and national policies and legislation which govern current LD service provision.5. To be actively involved in identifying and contributing to the on-going training needs of all staff - qualified and unqualified.6. To take a pro-active role in and actively contribute to the development of the LD Service.7. To represent the LD Service within the wider Trust arena.8. To contribute to the discussions with the wider stakeholder group.
