Job summary
The Lead Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician will play a key role in delivering a high-quality, patient-centred pharmacy service at the Newham Centre for Mental Health. Working as part of the multidisciplinary team, the post holder will coordinate and maintain safe and efficient medication supply systems, undertake medicines reconciliation, and support patients' independence through medicines management and self-administration schemes. They will manage and develop pharmacy technicians and trainees, ensuring effective training, supervision, and competency assessment. The role includes supporting the discharge process, liaising with GPs and community pharmacies to ensure continuity of care, and contributing to quality improvement, audit, and service development initiatives. The post holder will also assist with dispensary duties at Mile End Hospital and maintain accredited checking status. This position requires strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills, with a commitment to patient safety, service quality, and continuous professional development.
Main duties of the job

Clinical and Medicines Management:Undertake medicines reconciliation, develop individual medicines management care plans, support self-administration schemes, and assess patients' ability to manage their medicines safely and independently.

Medication Supply and Dispensary Duties:Coordinate and maintain efficient medication supply systems to wards and teams, manage top-ups, assess Patients' Own Drugs (PODs), and prepare discharge (TTA) medication in a timely manner.

Leadership and Staff Management:Line manage pharmacy technicians and assistants, create rotas, oversee training and development of staff and trainees, and ensure effective service delivery across clinical areas.

Audit, Quality Improvement, and Governance:Participate in audits, monitor performance indicators, contribute to service evaluation and improvement projects, and ensure compliance with CQC and Trust standards.

Education and Training:Support and deliver training to clinical and pharmacy staff, supervise pre-registration trainees, and promote continuous professional development within the pharmacy team.
