Job summary

We are seeking a professional Occupational Therapist to join our team with the following responsibilities:

  1. To function as a senior member of the MDT undertaking clinical and management responsibilities required in the team.
  2. To provide an Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment service to patients with complex mental health problems in coordination with other members of the Multi-disciplinary and Occupational Therapy team.
  3. To provide clinical and managerial supervision to allocated members of the staff team.
  4. To contribute to the on-going development and transformation of the care system.
  5. To provide effective signposting to a range of health, social, voluntary sector and community-based resources and services.
  6. To contribute to case formulations within the Neighborhood, incorporating experience and knowledge as a dually trained professional in both physical and mental health.
  7. To participate at practice and network-based MDTs, share good practice and take part in training activities for other members of the MDT

Main duties of the job

  • To provide an Occupational Therapy service to people accessing the NMHT where needs are complex and where multiple factors impacts on occupational performance.
  • As a member of the senior team to lead on referrals and clinical pathways in the NMHT.
  • To take a bio-psycho-social approach which looks to support people towards improving their quality of life
  • To work closely with partner organizations, Community Therapies and Sports Therapy to improve the physical health outcomes for service users with enduring mental health conditions.
  • To include physical occupational functioning needs through treatment planning, making use of collaboration agreements to provide minor adaptive equipment where required and referral for major adaptation to locality OT if required.
  • To promote the empowerment and education of clients in relation to their holistic health. This focuses on social inclusion, health promotion and relapse prevention.
  • To evaluate effectiveness of therapy interventions in conjunction with clients/carers, other professionals.
  • To promote and apply equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory interventions that respect the clients' customs, values and spiritual beliefs at all times.
