Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Band 7 Specialist Mental Health Occupational Therapist to join the Tower Hamlets Mental Health Liaison team, a multi-disciplinary team with expertise in adult and older adult mental health.
The team provides compassionate, person centered and non-judgmental care to individuals presenting to the A&E department with mental health related problems. Assessments, care and treatment are also provided to inpatients at the Royal London Hospital and St Bartholomew's hospital who have mental health needs.
This is a full time post, with the opportunity for flexibility, working across the working age and older adult service within the acute trust hospital. The post holder will work across the emergency pathway as well as general hospital acute wards and provide opportunity for extensive joint working with our acute trust colleagues. You will have the opportunity to develop and build on assessment, supervision and liaison skills
Professional supervision will be provided as will a full range of support to develop into the role
Main duties of the job
- Providing assessment and brief intervention to patients in the acute hospital, contributing to a smooth and early discharge and /or prevents an admission to a mental health unit.2. Improve the experience of patients who receive care in the acute hospital.3. Take a lead in linking with the acute hospital multi-disciplinary team and the relevant mental health adult and older people Occupational Therapy teams in Tower Hamlets.4. Provide an occupational therapy perspective to the multi-disciplinary team regarding assessment, intervention, management and discharge planning.5. Provide specialist OT advice and support about the management and treatment of patients to acute hospital staff.6. Support the Head OT's in the development of clinical and professional practice within the OT service.7. Communicate across organisations using techniques such as negotiation, motivation and persuasion to ensure the role is effectively carried out

Education / Qualification
Essential
- Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy. HCP registered Occupational Therapy.
- Relevant further education with Adult and/or MHCOP.
Desirable
- Specialist courses to masters level or equivalent relevant to the post.
- Practice educator training.
Experience

- Minimum of 3 years post graduate experience in a clinical mental health setting.
- Experience of working with older people and/or adults with mental health problems.
- Experience of supervision.
- Experience of undertaking assessment and care planning.
