Job summary
To provide an efficient and comprehensive domiciliary Phlebotomy Service to patients in Bedfordshire that are unable to access their GP practice to have their blood taken.
Duties may be undertaken in the patient's own homes, Care Home settings or other community locations.
The post holder will be expected to demonstrate initiative, be self-motivated and have the ability to work unsupervised, actioning and prioritising work as delegated.
To adhere to the Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) Code of Conduct, Standards and Competencies.
Communicate effectively and professionally with laboratory staff, hospital staff and other service users, in order to ensure the smooth running of the Phlebotomy Service and to promote a high quality service.
Main duties of the job
To bleed patients using the standard techniques approved by the Department of Pathology, ensuring infection control policy is adhered to at all times. Often dealing with High Risk patients with hepatitis and HIV.
To transport the blood samples to a designated collection point, in all four centres.
To carry out related administrative duties as required to complete the patient episode including recording or collecting information from the Trusts electronic patient record system.
To maintain a clean and hygienic area for specimens to be stored.
To ensure strict compliance at all times (on the assumption that all patients are potentially high risk) with approved safety procedures and policies concerning Health & Safety at work.
To work as and when necessary at any Centre within ELFT trust sites
To undertake any relevant training activities as required by the post
