Job summary

Are you looking for a new and exciting challenge? Are you a naturally helpful Health and Safety Manager? Do you have proven experience promoting a positive health and safety culture within the built environment ?

We are looking for an exceptional and inspirational Estates Health and Safety Manager to join our estates team and support our staff and contractors across our Capital, Digital and facilities teams

This newly created role will be a highly visible member of the estates team and will be a key point of contact for all aspects of built environment H&S - overseeing the safe, efficient, and effective provision of estates and construction services within our spaces.

With over 130 properties across East London, Luton & Bedfordshire and a multitude of service contracts with NHS and Private sector providers, you will be instrumental in ensuring that we are providing the best possible experience and quality of care for the population that uses our services as well as staff and partners that work for our Trust.

You will have a proven track record of managing H&S services in the built environment as well as compliance management, problem resolution and contractor engagement

Main duties of the job

As an effective Estates Health and Safety Manager, you will;.

Be a trusted technical HSE expert

Oversee and monitor the safe, efficient and effective provision of services.

Drive a zero tolerance, positive safety culture across operational and project delivery teams.

To ensure safe systems of work.

Lead on the management of the Estates Asbestos Register

Lead on Estates & Digital H&S related training

Provide additional support to implement Fire Safety responsibilities within the Trust. Such as training, fire drills, assessment, inspections and audits

Education, Training & qualifications:

Essential

  • Refer to JD / Person SpecEducated to a Master Degree level or equivalent experience demonstrating a detailed practical knowledge, understanding and application of relevant Health and Safety legislation in a workplace, and construction environment
  • Relevant H&S professional qualification and chartered membership of relevant professional body. E.g. NEBOSH Diploma Level & IOSH qualified
  • Used to working under pressure and change.
  • A strong understanding of construction site safety and Risk Management;
  • A strong understanding of the H&S issues arising from a busy, occupied, complex estate

Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • Highly developed negotiating and influencing skills and able to manage disputes to resolution.
  • Excellent Communicator - oral and in writing
  • Highly effective organisational skills
  • Ability to communicate at all levels - this would include Patient Groups as well as Patients & all staff..
  • Computer literate
  • Experience of Managing a Team of people.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of maintaining/writing Estates & Facilities Policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Knowledge of project management procedures
  • Trained in a capacity to manage and maintain Health & Safety guidelines within the Directorate in a supporting role and to ensure team compliance.
  • Full knowledge and understanding of the Operational requirements of delivering a safe service

Previous Experience

Essential

  • Substantial Health Service experience within Estates & Facilities functions, Construction or similar environments
  • Quality Performance Monitoring understanding using various methods - e.g. Electronic Data systems.
  • Experience demonstrating a detailed practical knowledge, understanding and application of relevant Health and Safety legislation in a workplace, and construction environment
  • A detailed understanding of associated H&S legislation and best industry practice;
  • H&S inspections and reporting; Training and instruction; managing safety inductions;
  • Good analytical skills with an ability to interpret complex legislative and other guidelines
