Job summary

The post holder will work as clinical nurse specialist contributing to the assessment and diagnosis for people suspected to be autistic as well as providing post diagnostic advice, recommendations and signposting advice.

The post holder will be an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, demonstrating and delivering a high level of contemporary, evidence based practice throughout the pathway.

The post holder will advise and consult with wider services and systems to ensure that autistic people receive the right support, at the right time from the right person.

Main duties of the job

Contribute to the assessment and diagnosis of people suspected of being autistic using evidence based tools and assessments.

Develop and deliver post diagnostic advice, support and signposting.

As a senior member of the team, the post holder will be a pivotal influence in ongoing service delivery and design, demonstrate excellent leadership at all levels.

Education/ Qualification/ Training

Essential

  • Registered Nurse & Membership with NMC
  • Evidence of relevant CPD
  • Meets revalidation criteria
  • Diagnostic Tools.

Desirable

  • BSc in Autism or equivalent
  • Willing to complete further training in Autism

Experience

Essential

  • Experience working in the field of autism
  • Experience and skills in assessing Autistic people
  • Excellent communication, verbal and written skills as well as inclusive communication skills.
  • Experience in service development across systems

Desirable

  • Experience in delivering training
  • Experience diagnosing autistic people

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Knowledge and sound understanding of Autism and experience working within current legislation and drivers
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of a multicultural framework.
  • Ability to work across professional boundaries. Experience of providing teaching and training sessions and supervision.
  • Ability to travel between sites
  • IT Skills, including use of Word, Microsoft Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Driving license and access to transport
  • Experience in participating in research and clinical audit
